(114,810 posts)How pepperoni became the topping of choice escapes me. I don't dislike it intensely, but give me sausage, mushrooms, black olives, and good cheese underneath.

(32,354 posts)Thin crust, red sauce, mozzarella. That's it---no meat, no vegetables. Important lesson: When the basics are high quality, the need for additional ingredients goes away.
From the legendary John's Pizza, in The Village, south Manhattan.

(4,735 posts)Sauce, (no meat) marinara, cheese, mushrooms, peppers, onions and black olives. If no sauce, just cheese, a mix of 2 or 3 kinds, spinach mushrooms, onions, peppers, also, black olives, and a sprinkling of Italian herbs. Yum, now I'm hungry.

(29,872 posts)..."extra-thick thin crust" and it was just right for me.
Red sauce and mozzarella for basic. When we make it at home, we use turkey sweet Italian sausage.crumbled and crispy, sauteed purple onion, chopped mushrooms, and sauteed red pepper. Green peppers taste bitter to me.
I'm one of those weird folks that does like anchovies.

(13,770 posts)Everything
Sausage, ground beef, peppers, green olives, black olives, onions, anchovies, cheese, roasted tomatoes, pepperoni, maybe mushrooms if I have some with some flavor like maitakes and boulinace sauce. And I'd spread roasted garlic over the crust before everything else went on.
Of course I would never order one like this it would cost a fortune. But I'd make it.

(3,187 posts)is my favorite, but I'll pretty much eat anything on pizza except pineapple, black olives or anchovies.
I was visiting my dad in Chicago many years ago and he asked what I wanted for dinner and I suggested pizza and he said they had DiGornio's in the freezer! DiGornio's, in Chicago, which is world famous for its deep dish pizza! No wonder my mother left him.
P.S. We did end up ordering from Giordano's.
