Does he mimic human dialogues he hears or pretend to dialogue with you?
Does he understand any of the words he uses or hears?

I go near the top of the steps:

Gary says in my voice,' "Hey mommy! Where are you?"
Then in her voice, "I am outside!"

Amazing. So he mimics his own conversations and his own voice.
And uses different voices for the dialogue.

Why does he say this when you go near the head of the steps?
Are you moving away or towards him?

Does he match other different dialogues to various events?

First, birds are a lot more intuitive than what we think. When I go to a certain spot he says "Bye my guy" in a child's voice and I go upstairs or leave. But sometimes I would plop in a chair and watch the news, Before I do that he says "Ahhhh".

"Double trash day" he says when he hears the trash truck very far away.

I NEVER try to teach him anything and most things he gets from context in another room. Such as from his long since off the airwaves Jerry Springer show. He would whistle like crazy when the violence began. Stop it!

He helps corral the critters, telling them the food is ready. But I don't think they listen to him and maybe view him as dessert. But when the kitty cats stick their paws in his cage, they soon regret his powerful beak.

When the land phone was there he would often repeat things I would say, aha? You want some more time to think about it?

Does he get it? I don't know but don't go in the bathroom! He remembers sounds he hears.

He is 25 and very sociable and waits til someone is eating near him before he eats.

His best moment is when a very tall redhead came in the kitchen. He rushed to the front of his pagoda cage and gave her the wolf whistle. When his species sees red it means it's mating season. Then out of the blue "Do you love me?" Again no response from the G-woman. Finally he moped on back to his little house in the pagoda, "Want some time to think about it?"

These are his best moments.

So he matches certain words with specific locations and events.

You don't have to teach him any of this.
He learns it on his own.

Oh my god that is hilarious about his interaction with the tall redhead.

Yes we keep finding out that animals are smarter than we have given them credit for.
Just because they are not humans we think they have no innate intelligence at all.

I could not understand a word that the cockatoo said.

I'm guessing that the dog's attention was based on hearing its human's voice and words coming from the bird, since the bird most likely was repeating their human's conversation.

Yes I was thinking the same thing.
The dog was paying attention to the human sounding words.
But the words made no sense.
