I've found most of them welcome the comfort and relief of an indoor home life with food, water, and love given freely. A few years ago, we had "the cat who came for Thanksgiving Dinner." Lucky (as we named him) was a white cat like George. He was a brutish looking cat, tho... in fact, my best friend called him "Bruiser!" He had one ear that was all but gone, and the other one looked like it'd been bitten through several times in the past. We took him to the vet and had him checked out, particularly for communicable diseases (to keep my babies safe), and opened the door and told him to "come in, if you want!" He promptly walked across the threshold and declared himself at home.

We only got to spend a few months with him before he was gone. I came down one morning and found him laying in the same place, in the same position, as he was when we'd all gone to bed the night before. I checked him tenderly, knowing he wasn't there any longer but not wanting to believe it. That old "ugly" bruiser of a cat made a huge impact in our little household for those few months. To this day, we remember him and laugh at his antics with our Border Collie and the other cats. I think he just wanted someplace safe to spend his last days, and we gave that to him with no questions asked... along with a ton of love and support. And he responded so positively to it all, that maybe we allowed him to stretch his time here in our world by a few months or so. I know he is still sorely missed.
