(24,453 posts)The other cats and the dogs in the neighborhood lived in fear of her, including our dogs! I'd constantly have to rescue one of them from her blocking their water or food bowls and daring them to come near her. They knew better! They'd run to me whining and crying - mom make her let us get to our food!!! I'd pick her up and all would be well. Animal dynamics are funny.

(94,637 posts)Kitty I called mine was the bully of the block. There was a time, when she was about three years old, when none of the neighbors had cats. She decided that the whole block was hers and when new cats moved in, I had to educated her about her territory, inside our fence, and not her territory. She patrolled the fence line* for the entire time we lived there, any other mammal passing through the gate had to meet with her approval.
Some of her friends were dogs and squirrels who taught her acrobatic feats unusual for cats. I still miss her decades later.
*Thank heavens there was a fence to define the yard!
