Trump calls for impeachment of Senate Democrat who called ending Obama's Iran deal 'bad mistake'
(The Hill) President Trump on Sunday called for the impeachment of Democratic Sen. Jack Reed (R.I.), after the lawmaker criticized his decision to pull out of the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) in his first term.
"Senator Jack Reed, a Dumocrat from R.I., lied when stating the the Deal we just made is not as good as the Obama disaster known as the JCPOA. Reed is either an outright fraud, or incompetent," Trump wrote in a Sunday post on Truth Social.
"The Obuma Deal was a road to a Nuclear weapon for Iran, cash and all, one of the worst and dumbest (hence Dumocrats!) Deals ever made by the U.S. Our Deal is a WALL against Iran ever having a Nuclear weapon, the complete opposite of Obuma. Impeach Jack Reed!" he added.
A sitting senator cannot be impeached but can be expelled through a resolution that requires a two-thirds majority vote.

(61,204 posts)The craziest thing is that Trump seems to thing he has a finished complete nuclear deal, when he has an agreement that they will work on getting one.
If they actually get a real deal, I would bet that they will use the Obama's deal's monitoring as a model. It genuinely was the most invasive, complete monitoring anywhere per the IAEA.
What Trump neglects is that Iran actually has less need to be at the point of creating nuclear weapons now as Trump's stupid war has demonstrated they have a simpler deterrent. They have shown they can hold the world hostage by closing the Strait of Hormus.
Oddly, the only thing that could make the strait less important is to really achieve a fossil free energy economy. However going on that direction is the goal of the Paris Climate agreement, another Obama, with most of the world, accomplishment Trump pulled out of.
As to the very respected Reed, he need not worry. Ignoring that he is correct, even if he were wrong, if inaccurate claims were illegal, Trump would have been charged with crimes nearly (or all) every day of the week for the last decade or more!
What this represents is Trump trying to write the narrative that everything he did (tearing up JCPOA, killing Salamani, bombing the nuclear sites (decimating his his words), the war he and Netanyahu started that assassinated their leaders, the resultant death and destruction and the economic chaos caused by closing the Strait) all led to a significantly better deal.
However, I am strongly convinced that history will see that JCPOA was the better deal that could have led to a more peaceful world if Trump were never elected.
I do hope the war ends, but Trump is like a little kid who broke his mother's vase and expects praise after he uses duct tape to "fix it". Even if he gets the exact same deal, American's reputation and influence will be tarnished.

(33,017 posts)The JCPOA agreement wasn't Obama's agreement -
7 fucking countries signed the agreement after almost 2 years of negotiations:
China
France
Germany
Iran
Russia
UK
USA
As far as the nuclear part of the deal, per Wiki:
"Under the JCPOA, Iran agreed to constrain its nuclear program by limiting fuel cycle activities that could lead to the production of weapons-grade uranium or plutonium. The JCPOA restricted the number and type of centrifuges in operation, the level of uranium enrichment, and the size of Iran's enriched uranium stockpile. Key facilities at Fordow, Natanz and Arak were repurposed for civilian uses such as medical and industrial research. Iran agreed to accept more intrusive IAEA monitoring measures of its fuel-cycle related activities. In exchange for complying with these restrictions, Iran received relief from nuclear-related sanctions imposed by the United Nations, the EU, and the United States, but many U.S. sanctions unrelated to the nuclear issue"

(13,608 posts)It is clear that he is causing long-term damage to this country and to our standing in the world, leading allies (do we have any left) and enemies alike to conclude that the US is now mostly a paper tiger they can ignore. Trump is boosting China's dominance and encouraging EU member states to dump the US and go their own way. Neither is good for our long-term future.
Do Republicans seriously think that only the children and grandchildren of progressives and minorities will pay the price for a degraded US with a reduced, or no, world leadership? Do they truly want a country where elections are not fair but are like Russia's where the results are known before the votes because voters somehow never vote against the government?
We have survived as a democracy for 250 years because we basically had honesty in our elections. The Republican Party has almost destroyed that with their cheating and attempts to disenfranchise voters and fair representation.
