(31,135 posts)These Muslim states' treatment of women
is astoundingly harsh and restrictive.
Misogyny seems to be growing worldwide.
America is trending in this direction as well.
Men must feel really threatened and need
to scapegoat, mistreat, and confine women
to a degree that is just astounding!

(6,428 posts)This is not about "marriage". This is about purchasing, owning, and enslaving girls and women.

It always has been a transaction where men buy sexual access to women in exchange for material support for women. It is the cornerstone of patriarchy and always was. It is a form of prostitution.
The entire system is rigged against women to coerce them to marry so men get sexual access. Women are seeing the truth and are rejecting it. That is why so many men are stomping angry.
Hallmark card nonsense about love, partnership, and commitment have nothing to do with it.

(6,428 posts)Is the marriage of my friends Elizabeth and Karen a form of prostitution and slavery?
Please tell me more of what you know about us and our marriages.

(1,360 posts)The truth is the truth. It IS a form of prostitution. It is the flip side of prostitution. The only difference is in degree. How do you explain marriages with children, with dowries, with mail order brides, with impoverishing women by men hoarding resources so that they have to sell themselves to the highest bidder? How do you explain away an economic system that is rigged against women for the simple reason that to starve women economically makes it easier for men to gain sexual access?
The fact is men will not marry women unless they get sexual access to women. The legal bennies come with a price for women, which is they must trade their bodies to get everything materially. That is how the great majority of women become "homeowners." That is how marriage is still the major means of upward mobility for women. It is purely transactional. Most men worldwide think this way of women, and if that upsets you, so be it. That is the mentality of the men who voted for Trump. Women are objects for sexual access and reproduction. That is all they are "for."
You don't want to hear the truth. I get it, it is extremely uncomfortable, but marriage needs to die out. I suspect in the next 100 years, it will die out in the West.
Mister Ed
(6,428 posts)You do me and others a grave and ugly injustice by equating our marriages to their plight.
Your pedantic, boilerplate dogma and your broadbrush condemnation of marriage will not help those girls in the least. Carry on with it if you will, though. I will pay no further heed.

(28,885 posts)My memory is a little dim here, but I seem to recall that Iraqi women were among the best educated in the Middle East before we went in. I am not defending Saddam Hussein or his human rights record. Who would? But women's rights in Iraq started eroding with the subsequent regimes that replaced him. I remember arguing with some local talk radio host about it at the time.
But, by all means, let's cut ties with our only solid ally in the Middle East.

(3,385 posts)When the Epstein files open you may be surprised. Yes
thats not marriage
but T and his friends will never give up their delicacies. The point is without power over our bodies and voices that are heard, really just anything is possible! As far as I can see the Christians, especially those in the rural areas here are not far behind the those that we are speaking of.
Its OK for me to speak an opinion. Just saying! In reference dont get me started on my sister in law
1977 southeast Ohio, burped out six babies in eight years. She had no voice as the church, god and her husband spoke for her. When she couldnt have anymore babies because her body was broken from the abuse, her husband brought a woman home from work saying that he wanted to take a second wife as their church allowed. When he took the additional lady to church with the family and talked to the head honcho about a second wife he was told that second wives cannot come in from outside the church they must already be church members. This is real life back woods Ohio and still exists today! The church then told my sister in law that since her husband had broken a church rule she had the choice of staying with her husband and leaving the church or staying with the church and leaving her husband. That was the one condition they would allow divorce. Over forty years ago

(3,385 posts)Even those up north. I had two sisters and we were born close together in age. Once a year my dads brother would visit and we girls would be huddled behind mom and dad when we would have to say hello to uncle. That man would nibble on our ears and hug and kiss on us. We would run away as each gained freedom from this disgusting greeting! Our parents were right there and never said a thing! Twenty years later he went to federal prison for sexually molesting and god knows what, our cousin. Children have a very rough road to travel in this country and its getting worse. My heart goes out to all of them.

(1,560 posts)Spent during the Iraq War for defending America and democracy. All lies cheered on by the media. Since I woke up last Wednesday, I have been thinking about the words of Reverend Jeremiah Wright that caused such controversy and was used against President Obama's during his administration. I went back and read those words. The good Reverend was correct. America 's chickens are coming home to roost. In so many ways
