Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro (D) blamed the Supreme Court for President Donald Trumps whopping profits while in office, calling its 2024 ruling on presidential immunity one of its worst decisions during a Friday interview with MeidasTouch.
In July of 2024, in Trump v. United States, the Supreme Court ruled 6-3 that former presidents have broad immunity from criminal prosecution for official acts taken while in office. However, it decided that protection does not apply to unofficial or private actions.
According to the presidents 2025 financial disclosure report, released earlier this week, he made more than $1 billion from his familys cryptocurrency ventures and more than $2 billion overall.
Speaking with MeidasTouchs Ben Meiselas on Friday, Shapiro weighed in, explaining that Trumps corruption leaves us all worse off because hes picking sides in battles that are ultimately un-American.

(13,668 posts)He and Republicans are deliberately trying to destroy any faith that we have fair elections. And now they're plotting some kind of made-up crisis so he can declare martial law and either take over the November election or cancel it altogether. I'll paraphrase Grover Norquist's old quote about the size of the federal government: The Republican Party needs to be reduced to the size where it can be drowned in a bathtub.
Many Party leaders in the states, including local leaders, who support anything Trump says are poised to cheat in this Fall's election any way they can. I guarantee that Ken Paxton is already planning how to thwart voting in Democratic cities in Texas.
I'm not sure that state and local Democratic officials are taking the planned cheating seriously enough.

(1,160 posts)But ultimately trump is responsible for his own decisions, his crimes and his behavior. It is the SCOTUS, however, that has given him free rein and that refuses to allow anyone to hold him accountable.
