Scoop: U.S. and Iran reach deal but need Trump's final approval, officials say
Source: Axios
U.S. and Iranian negotiators have reached an agreement on a 60-day memorandum of understanding to extend the ceasefire and launch negotiations on Iran's nuclear program, but President Trump has yet to give it his final approval, two U.S. officials and a regional source involved in the mediation efforts tell Axios.
Why it matters: The signing of the MOU would be the most significant diplomatic breakthrough since the war started, but a final agreement that tackles Trump's nuclear demands would still require further intensive negotiations.
Behind the scenes: U.S. officials said the deal terms were mostly agreed as of Tuesday, but both sides still needed to get approval from senior leadership.

(8,498 posts)Axios is truly full of MAGA clown journalists.
This clown:
Barak Ravid is a political reporter and Middle East expert for Axios covering foreign policy and the 2024 election. He also writes for Walla News in Israel and is the author of "Trump's Peace."
President Trumps policies and decisions fundamentally reshaped the geopolitical map of the Middle East. The Abraham Accords, brokered by his administration, brought about peace and normalization between Israel and the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Morocco and Sudan. The only part of Trumps legacy to receive bipartisan domestic praise and widespread global support, the accords could be considered the biggest diplomatic breakthrough of the century in the Middle East peace process.
Honestly, this is right wing propaganda and should not even appear in LBN.

(106,654 posts)Obviously, "the signing of the MOU would be the most significant diplomatic breakthrough since the war started" is false, since Axios has already pointed out this is an extension.

(12,545 posts)... is that we are ALMOST at the point of agreeing to try once again to reach an agreement, if #rump doesn't fuck it up again? Why would anyone call that a "breakthrough?"

Crucially, the report said, Donald Trump has not given his final approval on the MOU. Iran also has not commented publicly. US officials claimed they were prepared to sign.
US negotiators briefed have reportedly briefed Trump on the offer. The president was said to have relayed that he wanted a couple of days to think about it.

(24,450 posts)The Strait will reopen, but under Iranian control with some tolls in lace long term. Trump will hand Iran $25B of unfrozen cash. The 60 day negotiating period will bear no fruit and no nuclear deal will be reached. Trump will order more strikes and then claim for the 3rd or 4th time that Iran's nuclear program has been completely destroyed for all time.

(1,284 posts)Iran did not immediately confirm any deal. And the S&P 500 went up today when the potential agreement was announced.
Iran will never agree if Israel doesn't sign on to their demands for Lebanon and Israel won't agree to pull out of Lebanon and GAZA.
The US won't agree to have Russia or China take the enriched uranium.
Iran and China should reach out to Europe to pressure Israel and maybe China should supply Iran with components to make their missiles and drones more effective in their strikes against Israel and Iran should provide more missiles and anti-tank weapons to Hezbollah and supply Houthis willing to join the fight in southern Lebanon.. Iran hasn't even used sea drones against Israeli ports yet.
Iran won't give in to the US demands that they stop charging tolls on ships coming through the Hormuz and get rid of all of their missiles and drones which are Iran's only deterrence against Israeli aggression.
The situation is fu***d.
