U.S. Seeks International Help To Reopen Strait Of Hormuz As Crude Prices Surge

WASHINGTON/DUBAI/ISLAMABAD, April 29 (Reuters) - The United States is pressing ahead with plans for an international coalition to open the Strait of Hormuz, according to a State Department cable seen by Reuters, as oil prices surge on fears of lengthy disruptions to global fuel supplies.

Two months into the war that started with U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran, the vital sea channel remains closed, choking off 20% of the world’s supplies of oil and gas. That has sent global energy prices surging and heightened concerns about the risks of an economic downturn.

Efforts to resolve the conflict have hit an impasse, with a ceasefire in place since April 8 but Iran still blocking the strait in response to a U.S. naval blockade of Iran’s oil exports, the country’s economic lifeline.

U.S. President Donald Trump is slated to receive a briefing on Thursday on plans for a series of fresh military strikes on Iran in hopes of making Iran more flexible on nuclear issues in negotiations, Axios news site reported late on Wednesday.

But rethuglicans in Congress are going to go right ahead and authorize him to keep doing what he's doing. He's going to be even more emboldened. Looks like Israel has shoved the turmoil and cost over to him entirely too. They just want to sack Lebanon now.

and the voters in all countries can see that Trump caused the oil price rise on purpose, and the other countries' governments stayed out of it.

So while everyone is suffering a bit (and as net oil importers, it is actually worse for European countries than for the US, for their overall economies), the governments know they're not getting blamed - yet, anyway - while The Rapist is, for higher gas prices in the US. So he's stuck with the shitstorm he created.

The way to solve it involves negotiation, which the Republicans could do if they get serious, admit they fucked up, and send a credible negotiating team with a mandate to eat a shit sandwich to sort the mess out. But that involves Trump being very obviously a colossal fuck-up, and they haven't got to the point where they can admit to that.

In a sign the U.S. was also envisaging a scenario where hostilities cease, the State Department cable invited partner countries to join a new coalition called Maritime Freedom Construct (MFC) to enable ships to navigate the strait.

“The MFC constitutes a critical first step in the establishment of a post-conflict maritime security architecture for the Middle East,” said the cable, which was due to be delivered orally to partner nations by May 1.

France, Britain and other countries have held talks on contributing to such a coalition but said they were only willing to help open the Strait when the conflict ends.

You broke it, you own it, dumbass.

Trump tore up the treaty with Iran that Obama made. And Trump created this mess, but uses a non existent nuclear threat to justify his attack on Iran. The whole thing is a lie. If Trump wants to open the strait, then all he has to do is resign from office and let Hillary handle the cleanup.
