Barack Obama calls for unity after White House Correspondents' Dinner shooting

Source: msn/The Wrap

9h

Barack Obama called for unity on Sunday following the shooting at the White House Correspondents' Dinner on Saturday night. The 44th president said "it's incumbent upon all us to reject the idea that violence has any place in our democracy."

"Although we don't yet have the details about the motives behind last night's shooting at the White House Correspondents Dinner, it's incumbent upon all us to reject the idea that violence has any place in our democracy," he wrote on social media.

"It's also a sobering reminder of the courage and sacrifice that U.S. Secret Service Agents show every day," he concluded.

"I'm grateful to them - and thankful that the agent who was shot is going to be okay."

Although we don’t yet have the details about the motives behind last night's shooting at the White House Correspondents Dinner, it’s incumbent upon all us to reject the idea that violence has any place in our democracy. It’s also a sobering reminder of the courage and sacrifice that U.S. Secret Service Agents show every day. I’m grateful to them – and thankful that the agent who was shot is going to be okay.

It’s not in there that I could read. And why do I want to “unite” with someone who refers to half the country (that probably includes me) as left-wing scum?

Obama is not asking for Americans to join together. He's claiming violence isn't the way. It wasn't about unity. It was about stopping the violence.

And I say to Obama, them first. When the MAGA nut jobs and Nazis stop threatening everyone, when pedo Trump stops bombing countries that never attacked the US, when ICE agents stop killing American citizens and immigrants, that's when the matching threats of violence will stop.

It's kind of silly to be calling for nonviolence when the bully is in the middle of beating you up.

But, point out that it's coming from the political right. To fail to say it give credence to Republican talking points.
PS it was all about the ballroom and Epstein.

About 65% of those polled were united in the first thought that came to mind when they heard there was a shooting...

Just a guess.

Yet I refuse to give the Republicon party any benefit of doubt, or see them as just poor misguided souls. They thrive on causing those whom they view as vulnerable and therefore beneath them, immense pain and suffering. To put it plainly they are adult bullies.

Until they are willing to own up to that, apologize for it, and do more than theatrical efforts, to make recompense to those they harmed, I will never "unite," with them on anything. Evil exists and currently they are the absolute personification of it.

So when do we start on getting guns out of the hands of civilians?
Now is a good time to talk and act on that.

There are more guns than people in the US, apparently.

Trump did say that we should bridge our differences. (which is never going to happen, because he's usually the one telling Republicans not to cooperate with Democrats) And the media shouldn't put words in either one's mouth. That's not their job.

(that's the one that collapsed in the bay killing 6 bridge workers and I just saw an article last week where ICE is in the process of deporting the wife of one of the victims)

Pretty much the only ones who carried his remarks were the entertainment media, who covered the WHCD as an "entertainment" event. All the rest were fawning over 45 as usual.
