Iran weighs pausing its Hormuz shipping to avoid derailing talks
Source: Bloomberg
Iran is considering a short-term pause to shipments through the Strait of Hormuz to avoid testing a US blockade and scuppering a fresh round of peace talks, according to a person familiar with Tehran's deliberations.
The potential pause reflects a desire to avoid immediate escalation at a sensitive diplomatic juncture as Washington and Tehran sort logistics for another face-to-face meeting, the person said, asking not to be identified as the deliberations are private.

As of April 14, 2026, the United States and Iran are preparing for a second round of peace talks to end the ongoing war, following the failure of negotiations in Islamabad last weekend. While a US naval blockade on Iran continues, both sides are discussing new talks to address nuclear enrichment and control of the Strait of Hormuz.
Sourced: The New York Times
Key Details on Negotiations:
Failed Weekend Talks: Recent negotiations, led by US Vice President JD Vance in Islamabad, ended without a peace agreement, with disputes over the length of uranium suspension (US asked for 20 years, Iran offered 35).
Current Status: A second round of talks is being prepared with input from negotiators, though the exact date and venue are not finalized.
Sticking Points: The talks focus on Iran's nuclear capabilities and the security of the Strait of Hormuz, currently blocked by the US.
Military Pressure: The U.S. is enforcing a naval blockade on Iran's ports. Iran has accused the US of making unreasonable demands.
The Conflict: The war is in its seventh week, with a two-week truce scheduled to expire soon.

(177 posts)So much misinformation is flying around right now, likely from both sides!
Iranians saying ships are moving, US saying they are not.
Ive got a subscription to MarineTraffic and it has some tools to help determine who is telling the truth.
Heres whats interesting to me. Iran has a long history of having the tankers turn off AIS tracking.
I tried looking for all 6 ships centcom claims to have turned around or stopped.
Ive only been able to uncover 3 of them.
1) Ostria - attempted to cross the strait outbound, turned back and anchored.

2) Elpis - crossed the strait outbound, but stopped and anchored on the other side, near where Centcom says the blockade begins.

3) Rich Starry - turned around outbound prior to leaving the strait, then turned around once on the other side again, again and anchored on the east side.

Any other trackers find the other ships yet?
