The people of Minneapolis-St. Paul are being honored with a John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Award for their response to the federal immigration enforcement operation this winter, the JFK Library Foundation announced Wednesday.
The award recognizes residents who risked their lives to protect neighbors and immigrant community members during what the Department of Homeland Security described as the largest federal immigration enforcement action in U.S. history, according to the foundation.
Starting in late 2025, more than 3,000 federal agents from ICE and U.S. Border Patrol were deployed to the Twin Cities metro area.
The foundation highlighted that tens of thousands of residents took to the streets to peacefully protest federal overreach and threats to immigrant families and constitutional protections. Others documented enforcement activity and alerted neighbors to federal agents' presence, including two who were killed by enforcement agents: Renee Good and Alex Pretti.

Demonstrators participate in a rally and march during an "ICE Outâ day of protest on January 23, 2026 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Community leaders, faith leaders and labor unions have urged Minnesotans to participate in what they are calling a "day of action" as hundreds of local businesses are expected to close during a statewide general strike held in protest against immigration enforcement operations in the region. Appearing to promote the upcoming ceremony for the award given annually by the Kennedy family to recognize displays of courage similar to those former President John F. Kennedy, Sclossberg was put on the spot by co-host Jackie Alemany.
There have been a number of notable recipients who have received the JFK Profile in Courage award in the past decade, Alemany prompted her guest. There's Jerome Powell, Barack Obama, Mike Pence, George H.W. Bush, Zelenskyy, Gabby Giffords, Mitt Romney, John Lewis. Obviously, a number of those people are Republicans.
Given Donald Trump's proclivity for anything with the last name Kennedy on it and his love of receiving awards, is there anything that would ever warrant your family's consideration of Donald Trump receiving this award? Anything that he could do that would make you all consider that? she asked.
After a short burst of laughter, Scholssberg smirked and checked off a list of suggestions for the always attention-starved president.
If President Trump admitted to the many crimes and the grift that he has committed while president in office, stepped down and handed over the power of the presidency to somebody responsible and not somebody in his own cabinet, he replied with tongue in cheek.
