Bessent says 'international coalition' could escort tankers through Strait of Hormuz

Source: The Hill

03/12/26 5:34 PM ET

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Thursday that an “international coalition” could escort tankers through the Strait of Hormuz. “Are you starting to think, if this does keep persisting as it is, that the Navy has to go into the Strait of Hormuz to — to help ships get through, which would have a big effect on —” Sky News’s Wilfred Frost asked Scott Bessent in an interview.

“Look, that was always in our planning, that there’s the chance that U.S. Navy or perhaps an international coalition will be escorting oil tankers through,” Bessent replied. “There are, in fact, tankers coming through now, Iranian tankers, I believe some Chinese-flagged tankers have come through, so, we know that they have not mined the straits.”

Shipping traffic in the Strait of Hormuz has been held up for close to two weeks amid the U.S.-Israeli conflict with Iran. President Trump said Wednesday that the strait was in “great shape,” but Iran’s new supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, on Thursday asserted that the waterway would remain closed.

Three ships in the Strait of Hormuz were hit by unknown projectiles on Wednesday, per the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations. The agency also said that one of the strikes resulted in a fire on board one of the ships. On Thursday, U.K. Secretary of Defense John Healey said that his government has “seen the reports overnight of more civilian commercial ships that have been attacked, unarmed, doing their normal business.”

That ain't happening either. You don't go run out there and arrogantly start a war, and then come back begging for someone to "help" after you fucked up.

... a fucking idiot, and I don't think that military tactics are part of his purview. The Strait of Hormuz is only 35 miles wide at the curve. ALL ships, including naval vessels, are sitting ducks for short-range missile attacks if the mines don't sink them first. It would probably take a fleet of minesweepers to clear the Strait, and it would likely take weeks and inevitable casualties.
Sweet Christ on a pogo stick, I hate these people.

That TSF had our mine-sweepers sent back home and they are all currently sitting in dry-dock. So that won’t be happening soon.

Brilliant! Not!

“There are, in fact, tankers coming through now, Iranian tankers, I believe some Chinese-flagged tankers have come through, so, we know that they have not mined the straits.”

They could be mining the strait but leaving clear some channel that their pilots (the navigators who get on board ships to help the crews to navigate difficult waters) know about. Do you really think the Iranians cut off their own access to the sea beyond the Hormuz strait and bottled themselves up in the Persian Gulf? Only a ring-ring ring-a-ding-dong would do that.

I'm not trying to be snarky. Ainʻt nobody coming to save us. We voted for this shit -rather, 70,000 people who voted for that man and the
90 million who could've voted, but chose not to do so, made the difference. when asked why they dodʻt vote, the most frequent reason cited was that nobody was talking about their issues. Not affordability- poverty! ( Rev Dr William James Barber, 3.2026, Honolulu, Hawaii.)

I don't expect funded effort to reduce our voting rights. voting will be any easier this time of course. I am aware of the concentrated focused and well- But it is up to each of us, one on one. One awkward, often long-avoided conversation at a time. (Or maybe several sequential convos,) thoughtfully, with love, solid message plan, unifying, a moral fusion in Rev Dr William James Barberʻs words, to help them see that:
Veterans,
Our people currently serving their country in uniform,
Black folks,
Brown folks,
Women,
Minorities of all origins,
Poor folks,
People of other faiths than fundamentalist Christians including progressive Christians, Muslims, Hinu, Sikh folks, atheists, all other beliefs and those who choose none,
Scientists,
Public health professionals whose jobs are cut or under threat,
People who would like their kids and grandkids to grow up in an apocalyptic dystopia,
People who would like not to sell our hope for a livable climate for the benefit of that manʻs family, friends and the fossil fuel industry,
Medicaid enrollees,
Medicare enrollees by and by probably because where else will the immense tax cuts for billionaires come from?
Students who want to be able to get an education without mortgaging their their futures,
Including future doctors and nurses,
Current medical workers,
and so many other groups experiencing gross unconstitutional and illegal injustice!
People who would like to have medical care in the future, need to join in common cause!

We need to understand and figure out how to help those non-voters see the value in not being passive perfectionists, waiting for the perfect candidate this go round. Not saying this is anywhere your message but we must understand that telling people they are stupid and wrong, that will not persuade anyone of anything. We must offer better.

We must not be defined by those who would take our rights. We alone define ourselves. We will not be divided.

Aloha!

Works nicely when you have the capital. They manipulated the markets last April and made a killing.
