Bessent Says Trump 'May Unsanction' Russian Oil To Try To Bring Down Prices Amid Iran War

During a Friday appearance on Fox Business, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said President Donald Trump may unsanction Russian oil in an attempt to bring down skyrocketing prices amid the U.S. and Israels war on Iran.
Speaking with Fox Businesss Larry Kudlow, Bessent was asked to comment on rising oil prices and his announcement of an agreement on a detailed implementation plan by President Trump to deploy maritime reinsurance, including war risk in the Gulf region. Notably, as CNBC wrote on Friday, U.S. crude soared 35.63% for the biggest weekly gain in the history of the futures contract dating back to 1983.
The world is very well supplied in oil, said Bessent. Yesterday, Treasury agreed to let our allies in India start buying Russian oil that was already on the water, emphasizing that the Indians have been very good actors who stopped buying Russian oil upon U.S. request this past fall.
To ease the temporary gap of oil around the world, we have given them permission to accept the Russian oil. We may unsanction other Russian oil, he continued. There are hundreds of millions of sanctioned barrels of crude on the water, and in essence, by unsanctioning them, Treasury can create supply. We are looking at that.

(4,892 posts)Since 2005, the U.S. has decreased it's imports of foreign oil. In 2025, the U.S. imported only 1/3rd of its' oil. Of that 1/3rd, 60% comes from Canada and 7% from Mexico. So our usage of foreign oil, with middle east and Russian oil in particular, is minimal. So why are prices rising in the U.S? And what's with the urgent need to help Putin?

(4,892 posts)The Ukrainian Flamingo missile has been perfected and is stepping up-to-the-plate with recent long range successes hitting strategic Russian sites. If the Trumpettes lift the sanctions, I hope Ukraine can step-up production of these missiles and blow big holes into all Russian oil infrastructure. Shut down Russian oil production in a big way. Problem solved with the Ukrainian way of implementing sanctions.

(5 posts)Russia is helping Iran target Americans while Ukraine is sending experts to help defend against Iranian drones. But he is still siding with Russia.

(2,571 posts)I'm assuming we would target Iran's drone producing facilities. So I guess this is a payment to Russia for inconveniencing their war effort? They can just pay North Korea to build the drones for them if Iran's are knocked out? What a wicked web.

(14,828 posts)Iran supplied drones.. and then the expertise in drone making, and Russia seems to have become quite adept at mass producing its own drones now.

(14,828 posts)It makes even more sense now.
Putin wins on oil prices going up, increasing revenue
Putin wins on supplying drones and weapons to iran
Putin wins on diverting any form of material or assistance to the Ukrainian front.
And now he gets unsanctioned oil sales.
