Georgia father Colin Gray found guilty in son's alleged deadly school shooting

Source: nbc news

A Georgia jury on Tuesday held a father criminally responsible for the actions of his teenaged son who — while armed with an AR-15-style rife that had been kept inside their home — allegedly gunned down two schoolmates and a pair of teachers.

The panel in Barrow County found Colin Gray, 55, guilty of all changes, which included second-degree murder and cruelty to children, connected to the Sept. 4, 2024, mass shooting at Apalachee High School in Winder.

On the last comment, the kid didn't steal the gun. It was a Christmas gift from his father Ray Bruns Mar 3 #1

We could use these laws against gun store companies and employees. No one will work in that industry any more. n/t Jacson6 Mar 3 #4
That will never happen, but required liability insurance would be a good first step. AZ8theist Mar 3 #10

I'm all for holding these parents accountable for not locking up guns but I guarantee it will always be lopsided.

Criminologists have studied for 10 years school shootings.
They know why they happen and how to prevent them.

About time, too!

And speaking of “time”, parents like these should be DOING time for teaching their murderous children “what to do and how to do it”. With frequent random inspections of their homes and workplaces to check for more hidden weapons that could be used to kill, also. And RIDICULOUSLY high fines added on.

If it were me, I wouldn’t just “throw the book” at them. I’d make it whole libraries and entire book-binding companies, too.

are sitting in prison as we speak. They were each sentenced to 10-15 years. In my opinion, it set a good precedent.

They're both appealing their convictions, so we'll see what happens, but for now, they're right where they belong.

to cover for him. She testified against him, lives with a foster family and changed her last name.

Never saw any reference to mother.

A father had given a 22 rifle as a birthday gift to his FIVE YEAR OLD son. The boy shot and killed his three year old sister. The sheriff said it was an unfortunate accident. No charges.
Glad things are changing.

1) he was a minor at the time so there are more steps they have to take
2) the dads case was simpler. Just a couple of counts as opposed to the dozens his son faces

we simply must get more educated, as a society, about firearms. If you want to own them for hunting or target practice, fine. Keep them locked up. But if you own them for "protection" everyone needs to understand that just by having a firearm in the home, you are LESS SAFE.

You are far more likely to accidentally shoot someone or commit suicide than using it to shoot an intruder. Unless you have military or law enforcement training, if you pull a weapon on an armed assailant, they're going to pull the trigger first. Why? Because they're a criminal! You have probably never shot another human being. They may have!
