Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) had a microphone snatched right out of his hand Friday night as he spoke at the Oldham County, KY, Republican Partys Lincoln Day Dinner.
Massie was in the midst of saying, If you are a congressman, you work not for the Speaker of the House, I work for you! pointing to the audience, when event emcee and state House Speaker David Osborne (R) decided hed heard enough.
Osborne grabbed the mic away as someone yelled, Welcome to the snake pit, baby!
Massie then walked off in solidarity with supporters who left the event because hed been cut off, according to the Louisville Courier Journal. Massie told the paper that he joined supporters for drinks at Ernestos Mexican Cuisine in La Grange. I said, Well, if theyre going to walk out for me, Ill walk out and meet with them,' Massie said.

🚨Oldham County GOP snatches Mic from Thomas Massie. 🚨
Is this how you want your first amendment protected for telling the truth?
Not me!
You dont treat sitting congressmen like this.
Especially after dragging his wife through the mud.
If you wont defend your wife, you damn sure wont defend your nation.
Yes. I was the only man standing and applauding him for speaking the truth.
A room full of weak men.
These races have just begun.
The heat is officially turned up.
We are taking this fight straight to Washington.
Welcome to the snake pit baby!

(8,064 posts)And I say that as an American whose ancestors fought on the side of the South in that war. They should have all been dispossessed and relocated to places far from their homes, not allowed to return for decades. The whole 12-year Reconstruction farce is what started us on the path to where we are today.

Blacks and poor whites just stayed screwed.
Thank you, COL.

Massie said he was initially told he wouldn't be allowed to speak at all, before event officials gave him and Gallrein five minutes at the mic. Senate candidates were given eight.
Massie said he knew his time had run out, but he wanted a little more time to "defend my wife." Trump recently published an insulting social media post about Massie's wife, Carolyn Grace Moffa, that was reposted on X by Gallrein. No speakers at the dinner had referenced his wife, Massie said, but "there's literally nobody at this event who just hasn't seen the president's tweet."
"They didn't want me to speak anymore, and (Osborne) came up and grabbed the microphone," Massie said. "He just snatched it out of there."
Some of it might have been due to confusion, the congressman speculated. He was talking about the speaker of the U.S. House when he was cut off, but he didn't specifically reference Mike Johnson, the Louisiana Republican who holds that role in the nation's Capitol. Osborne holds a similar title as speaker of the Kentucky House in Frankfort.
But he also speculated political difference between him and Osborne may have played into it.

(18,481 posts)They provided around 65 total regiments to the USA in the Civil War, and about 10 to the CSA. I would not call that "neutrality," but historically they did try to stay out of it until their hand was forced.

(25,529 posts)I can't wrap my head around all this whack shit that's happened in the last 18 months, and the last 2 have been particularly egregious. I guess the transition from troubled democracy to chaotic evil authoritarianism is happening rather too swiftly for my sluggish comprehension.
