Jet donated by Qatar could start serving as Trump's new Air Force One this summer, Air Force says

Source: CBS News

January 22, 2026 / 12:20 AM EST / CBS News

President Trump could start flying in a plane donated by Qatar as early as this summer, as the U.S. Air Force confirms it will deliver the refurbished jumbo jet for use as Air Force One within months.

"The Air Force remains committed to expediting delivery of the VC-25 bridge aircraft in support of the Presidential airlift mission, with an anticipated delivery no later than summer 2026," an Air Force spokesperson said Wednesday, confirming a report by The Wall Street Journal.

The royal family of Qatar donated the Boeing 747-style plane for Mr. Trump's use last spring. The plane could not enter service immediately, though, as the Pentagon needed to retrofit it to serve as Air Force One. It also needed to be checked for security and spying devices before it was accepted, a source told CBS News at the time.

The donated plane could take the place of two 35-year-old jets that currently serve as Air Force One. Mr. Trump has long pushed to replace the aging planes, but a project to replace them has faced delays, with delivery of two new planes currently set for 2027 and 2028.

The arrangement is that it will go to his Presi-dunce-ial library foundation, not the library itself. So, it would not be under the control of the federal archives, and thus available for his personal use. Deal signed off on by his personal lackey “Attorney General,” Pam Bondi.

They've been maintained, upgraded and gone over with a fine tooth comb for years and are still in service. They went into service in 1955.

Air Force 1 is basically in brand new condition 35 years later.

All current B-52's are H models built in the 60's.
I also suspect military bombers are built a little more robust then commercial jets so they will still fly with battle damage.

For example a B-52H still flew after its vertical stabilizer sheared off in severe turbulence in 1964.
The aircraft landed safely.

Unlike Japan Air Lines 747 Flight 123 when it lost it's vertical stabilizer. It was the largest number of fatalities from the crash of a single aircraft.

Japan Air Lines Flight 123 was a scheduled domestic passenger flight from Tokyo to Osaka, Japan. On the evening of Monday, August 12, 1985, the Boeing 747 flying the route suffered a severe structural failure and explosive decompression 12 minutes after takeoff. After flying under minimal control for 32 minutes, the plane crashed in the area of Mount Takamagahara, 100 kilometres (62 mi; 54 nmi) from Tokyo.
The aircraft, featuring a high-density seating configuration, was carrying 524 people. The crash killed all 15 crew members and 505 of the 509 passengers on board, leaving only four survivors.

......due to the aging fleet, but President Obama's administration formalized the replacement program, choosing Boeing for the new VC-25Bs (modified 747-8s) in 2015.

However 747 production ended in 2022, making getting a new one somewhere between impossible & super expensive.

"The Articles of Confederation, America’s first national constitution, apparently borrowing from the Dutch, included a provision in Article VI stating: “[N]or shall any person holding any office of profit or trust under the United States, or any of them, accept any present, emolument, office or title of any kind whatever from any King, Prince or foreign State.”

More grounds for impeachment in plain sight. George Washington and the gang said so.
