Truth Social parent company Trump Media & Technology Group announced a deal on Thursday to merge with nuclear fusion company TAE Technologies.
The surprise merger drove shares of Trump Media 17% higher in premarket trading.
The companies said the all-stock transaction is valued at more than $6 billion and will create one of the first publicly traded fusion companies. After the deal closes, shareholders of Trump Media and TAE would own about 50% of the combined entity.
The news comes as Trump Medias share price has plunged this year. Truth Social has struggled to gain traction, remaining a far smaller player than rival social media platforms.

I saw a CNBC business alert earlier about what stocks had the "biggest moves" premarket and and his Lies Social parent was mentioned... then I spotted this article.
Looks like a bailout, more grift and probably money laundering.

(19,320 posts)The shooting death of a Massachusetts Institute of Technology professor found in his Brookline home Monday night is being investigated as a homicide, officials said.
Nuno Loureiro, 47, was pronounced dead Tuesday morning.
This is an active and ongoing homicide investigation, the Norfolk District Attorneys Office said.
Loureiro was a professor in MITs department of nuclear science and engineering and the department of physics and was also director of MITs Plasma Science and Fusion Center, the university said.

(19,320 posts)There has not been the much about Nuno Loureiro yet..
BROOKLINE, Mass. A world-renowned Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) professor and fusion-energy physicist was shot and killed inside his home earlier this week, an attack that has rattled one of the countrys most elite scientific communities.
Nuno F. Gomes Loureiro, 47, was a professor of nuclear science and engineering and the director of MITs Plasma Science and Fusion Center. Loureiro was a renowned figure in fusion-energy research, a field that seeks to recreate the power of the sun inside fusion reactors on Earth. His theories and models helped guide major fusion experiments in the United States and Europe.
Loureiro was rushed to a hospital with "apparent gunshot wounds" Monday evening and pronounced dead Tuesday morning, according to the Norfolk District Attorney's Office in Massachusetts. A homicide investigation is underway.
No suspect has been identified and the motive for the killing is still unknown.

TAEs path to delivering a utility-scale fusion power plant begins with its origins at UC Irvine in the 1990s. It was there that late physicist and TAE technology co-founder Dr. Norman Rostoker, along with current CEO Dr. Michl Binderbauer and others, recognized the shortcomings of available energy sources to meet electricity demand. They set out to create a revolutionary solution, which is now TAEs proprietary concept: a compact, linear design that marries the deepest insights from accelerator physics and plasma physics called an advanced beam-driven Field-Reversed Configuration (FRC). This reactor technology is designed to operate with TAEs preferred fuel source hydrogen-boron, the most environmentally friendly fuel for fusion, while also being capable of accommodating all available fusion fuel cycles.
As TAEs founding members saw it, this approach was the most practical, providing a reliable, cost-effective and dispatchable carbon-free energy source with no nuclear meltdown risk, no radioactive waste, and no risk of proliferation.
Available virtually everywhere around the world with approximately 100,000 years of natural supply, hydrogen-boron fuel is non-radioactive, a.k.a. aneutronic. In its primary reaction, it produces only three helium atoms as a byproduct a hallmark that inspired TAEs original company name, Tri Alpha Energy.
Innovation in Fusion Technology
How We Do It
TAE employs a money by milestone model, which enforces a results-based approach to development. We raise only the amount of capital required to support the next phase of scientific advancement.
We have achieved proof of science with the ability to sustain plasma confinement at will at temperatures exceeding 70M degrees Celsius. We are the first in fusion research history to successfully form an FRC plasma using only neutral beam injection a breakthrough that significantly reduces the cost and complexity of the FRC technique while improving performance. This achievement led to the creation of our Norm machine a smaller, simpler fusion prototype that sets the standard for more efficient and more cost-effective commercial fusion power. The breakthrough also created a shorter commercial roadmap for TAE, leapfrogging a previously planned sixth research machine to pave the way for the start of TAEs commercial era with the development of fusion power plant prototype, Da Vinci.
With more than $1.3 billion in private capital and more than 1,600 granted patents, TAE is on track to deliver hydrogen-boron fusion to the grid in the early 2030s.
Yet TAE isnt solely developing fusion power were also actively shaping a world ready to embrace it. We take every opportunity to maximize our fusion research, both with our extensive peer-reviewed publications and with our collaborators, to offer an overall improvement to quality of life with products from across our subsidiaries. That includes TAE Power Solutions creating a more efficient, resilient, upgradeable grid, from peak shaving and storage that accelerates our transition to an electrified world, and the development of novel cancer drugs and complementary treatment technology from TAE Life Sciences.
Together, this family of TAE companies is leveraging proprietary science and engineering to create a bright future for us all.
I work with a number of economic developers, and they tell me our energy grids need to grow beyond the capacity of solar, wind, hydroelectric, biomass, and so on. In my state, our Dem super-majority legislature has even passed a bill to encourage people to go into nuclear energy technology. I recently attended a conference with some colleagues and one of the breakout sessions centered on these 'big data' centers that suck up so much power and water.
Now, sometimes I am really disgusted with AI and the way its being crammed down our throats by the billionaire parasites, but it does have its place, and as computing evolves quantum capabilities, we will need clean and environmentally friendly power and this TAE seems to be developing small-reactor fusion generators that can power groups of businesses in one part of the power grid.
Hopefully the merger with Trump won't fuck the whole thing up, because that is what Trump does best - fuck things up. Because this is truly useful technology that gets us out of the dangerous fission reactors and substitutes that with fusion, which is how the sun operates. While I think Trump and these billionaires need to be held accountable for their wrongs, which are many, even a broken clock is correct twice a day, and the Wall Street greed-lizards well know how necessary it is to find alternate sources of power that are more environmentally friendly.
So...TAE is encouraging. This merger is NOT.

(105,579 posts)There's a lot of potential for hype, obfuscation and plain untruth. So look to see what others say or do.
From a few days ago, a project with the UK Atomic Energy Authority shows they can be taken seriously for some of their work:

but a Reddit comment, 5 months ago, seems to regard their claims as unrealistic:
