Scoop: Musk diving into 2026 midterms for the GOP

Source: Axios

Elon Musk has begun funding the GOP's House and Senate campaigns for the 2026 midterms — an indication his relationship with President Trump has thawed since their messy breakup earlier this year.

Why it matters: Musk — who threatened to launch a third party and support challengers to Republican incumbents during his dispute with Trump — is now firmly back in the GOP's camp.

The tech billionaire recently cut big checks to help Republicans win congressional races next year and indicated he'd give more throughout the 2026 cycle, two sources with knowledge of the situation tell Axios.

Zoom in: Musk's donation amounts won't be disclosed publicly until campaign finance reports are released next month. But his support could be a huge boost for Trump's Republicans next year as they try to stop Democrats from reclaiming power in Congress, particularly the House.

I'm not surprised by this either. Musk has never apologized for any of his actions and he still holds far-right and fascist views. He may have previously disagreed with Trump on how to implement his horrible agenda but he's still a fascist as far as I'm concerned.

Ultimately we the people have a lot of power when we work together. Last time Musk faced pressure he backed down and we can do it again. I urge everyone to boycott Twitter and boycott Tesla.

I'm actually really shocked more people are not boycotting Twitter. I feel this is so important that I made my username "BoycottTwitter" so that I remind people whenever I make a post.

If you know a friend or family member that's still on Twitter especially if they are like-minded urge them to stop using their account. For more apolitical people consider taking about Twitter's negative effects on mental health.

Also contact companies, organizations and institutions and urge them to stop using Twitter and create a Bluesky account or at minimum crosspost if they are afraid of leaving right away.

And admin here won't do anything about it either, despite the "rule" against right-wing sources. They could easily prevent embedded content from displaying, if they wanted to.

I personally wouldn't use that Nazi shithole site even if you paid me, and there a few others here on DU who feel the same way. But I do hope you can make a difference here. Maybe try posting in every single thread that links to Twitter content, like some do here whenever AI content is posted.

Welcome, and good luck!

15. Some Tips

Thank you everyone for your warm welcomes!

Even if the admin won't block it I can share some tips to deal with people linking to or embedding Twitter:

- First note that some people crosspost to multiple social media platforms. If the same post is available on Bluesky urge people to use that link instead of the Twitter link.

- Second of all use Firefox or a fork such as LibreWolf and install uBlock Origin. It's an ad and tracker blocker plugin. This helps stop big tech companies (which are increasingly Trump-aligned) from collecting your data and also helps defund big tech too. Firefox can also block embedded Tweets.

- Lastly for when content is Twitter exclusive always either use Tweet viewers instead of linking to Twitter/X directly. Websites such as nitter.net, xcancel.com or nitter.poast.org. These websites all let you view tweets without requiring logging in. All you need to do is replace "x.com" with one of those websites and you can view the tweet without being forced to login. Or as an alternative upload a screenshot of the Tweet.

I'll also be sure if I see someone linking to or embedding a Tweet I'll try to tell them not to do it because that supports Elon Musk.

This is what Twitter links on DU look like to me...

But good advice for those who are unaware that merely loading/viewing an embedded link in a thread supports the Nazi and his company. Fuck that guy.

I think she's a wee bit smarter than he is, though she doesn't have the money he does and that could make my logic go down the tubes. But I hold out hope that Greene is a little more earnest than it would appear and she'll avoid him. And also that his schemes will die this time. No judge should ever have permitted him to play with the election.

They staged it for the media attention they knew it would get. Anyone that believed they really broke up don't get that Trump and his stooges use the media (especially social media) because they are media whores. It'll be interesting to see where things go from here.

Starting immediately, the Musk Money Threat has to be a central theme. Our No Kings marches should include No Musk Money posters. Every reporter and journalist should be talking about Musk seeking to influence voters with money. The selling of our nation should be our greatest concern as we near the midterm elections.
