Trump Blames Tragic Death of Rob Reiner and Wife on 'TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME'
Source: Mediaite.com
President Donald Trump seized on a shocking and still-developing report about the deaths of filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Reiner, using the moment to settle political scores rather than acknowledge the gravity of the allegations.
According to reports circulating late Sunday, Reiner and his wife were allegedly killed by their son. Authorities have not publicly substantiated the claims, and key details remain unclear. Nonetheless, the story spread rapidly online, prompting reactions across the political spectrum before basic facts were established.
Trump responded on social media Monday morning by asserting that Reiners long-running and very public opposition to him was the real cause of the couples deaths. The former president framed the alleged tragedy as a byproduct of what he derisively labeled Trump Derangement Syndrome, portraying Reiner as consumed by political animus and suggesting that this fixation led to fatal consequences. Trump posted on Truth Social:
"A very sad thing happened last night in Hollywood. Rob Reiner, a tortured and struggling, but once very talented movie director and comedy star, has passed away, together with his wife, Michele, reportedly due to the anger he caused others through his massive, unyielding, and incurable affliction with a mind crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME, sometimes referred to as TDS. He was known to have driven people CRAZY by his raging obsession of President Donald J. Trump, with his obvious paranoia reaching new heights as the Trump Administration surpassed all goals and expectations of greatness, and with the Golden Age of America upon us, perhaps like never before. May Rob and Michele rest in peace!"

(12,711 posts)A post being in LBN, and an earlier post being in GD or any other non-LBN forum do not count as dupes as far as the LBN dupe rule.
That's because one can't expect people to search the entirety of DU looking for the same or similar article before posting in LBN.
And even if the story were posted in 15 other forums, the purpose of LBN is to present all important news of the last 12 hours in one place (LBN) so that people don't have to read all of DU to catch up on important news.
And of course your point about the earlier post being a tweet is relevant too -- if that tweet post was posted in LBN, it would almost certainly be locked -- I've seen posts locked in LBN for that reason.

(76,244 posts)That is most likely the work of Stephen Miller. To make a tragedy like the deaths of Reiners
about Donald Trump is despicable and the work of a really diseased mind. I met some kids
a brother and a sister (14 and 11) who products of his kids in cages program and my feelings
for Miller are not nice.

(16,912 posts)What a despicable thing to write. He is obviously bat shit crazy first and foremost (thats not even debatable any more), but hes just also so obviously jealous of someone who was so loved and respected as Rob Reiner was.
Someone needs to tell the asshole to shut the fuck up.

(174,270 posts)Facing criticism from the left, right and center, the president had a chance to make things better. He did not.
When Paul Pelosi was nearly murdered, and Trump responded with conspiracy theories and jokes, it reminded the world that Trump is a man devoid of grace and decency.

Targeting Rob Reiner, he did it again, digging a hole in the bottom of the barrel and falling even further.

In a normal White House, a president would see the pushback from his own ostensible allies and realize hed made a mistake (although in a normal White House, the comment never would have happened in the first place). In this White House, Trump acted as if hed never heard the old expression about quitting while behind.
Q: A number of Republicans have denounced your statement on Rob Reiner. Do you stand by it?
— Aaron Rupar (@atrupar.com) 2025-12-15T20:48:56.863Z
TRUMP: Well, I wasn't a fan of his at all. He was a deranged person as far as Trump is concerned.
At an unrelated event in the Oval Office, a reporter reminded the president that a number of Republicans had denounced his statement related to Reiner and asked, Do you stand by that post?
The smart move would have been for Trump to dodge the question and change the subject. He did not, however, make the smart move.
I wasnt a fan of his at all. He was a deranged person as far as Trump is concerned, the president said, referring to himself in third person. He said he liked, he knew it was false in fact, its the exact opposite that I was a friend of Russia, controlled by Russia. You know, it was the Russia hoax, he was one of the people behind it.
For good measure, the Republican added, He became like a deranged person, Trump derangement syndrome. So I was not a fan of Rob Reiner at all in any way, shape or form. I thought he was very bad for our country......
Instead, lets focus on the fact that Trump welcomed an avalanche of criticism from the left, right and center by condemning a celebrated artist immediately after learning of his death and, given an opportunity to make things better, made a conscious decision to make things worse.
Trump is who he appears to be: a small and petty man, incapable of empathy or grace, obsessed with his grievances, unaware of what it means to be presidential and unable to control his worst instincts.
