Trump unsure whether impact of economic policies will be felt in time for midterms, WSJ reports

Source: Reuters

December 14, 2025 1:15 AM EST Updated 3 hours ago

Dec 13 (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump expressed uncertainty about whether Republicans would keep control of the House of Representatives in next year's midterm elections because some of his economic policies have yet to take full effect, the Wall Street Journal reported on Saturday.

Trump, in an interview conducted on Friday, told the Journal, "I can’t tell you. I don’t know when all of this money is going to kick in," when asked about the whether Republicans would lose the House in November. The White House did not immediately respond to Reuters' request for comment. The president has argued that his economic policies, including his imposition of widespread tariffs on imports, are creating jobs, boosting the stock market and attracting increased investment into the United States.

After campaigning last year on promises to tame inflation, Trump has in recent weeks alternated between dismissing affordability problems as a hoax, blaming President Joe Biden for them, and promising his economic policies will benefit Americans next year. "I think by the time we have to talk about the election, which is in another few months, I think our prices are in good shape," Trump said in the interview.

Last month the president rolled back tariffs on more than 200 food products in the face of growing angst among American consumers about the high cost of groceries.

and companies lining up to lay off even more employees in early 2026, I think we've seen enough of trump's economic policies.

The funny thing is he may get bailed out again by SCOTUS by finding his tariffs illegal.

The “Trump said this” obsession is the root of the problem,

Starve propagandists of FREE media coverage/amplification.

It isn’t education/information, it’s noise.

If you can’t starve the mouthpiece, starve the stomach of the beast—boycott sponsors of MAGA.

The impact of his stupid policies is being felt by millions of people and it will only get worse as ACA subsidies expire and people have to choose whether to pay the rent or mortgage or buy health insurance.

High rent/mortgage, out of sight heath insurance costs, food prices rising by an average of 15%, not to mention local taxes going up to fund federal funding deficits, and the lowest priced of cars crossing the 50,000 mark. Who in the hell can afford to live? Answer: the 1%

It's all due to the high price of dolls and pencils don't you know. So he took off their 50% tariffs.

Let's face it, it's his Alzheimer's riddle mind's way of expressing, "get use to living on less, a lot less". For the good of steal corporations and the filthy-rich, the middle class and poor will just have to make do with less.... it's the American way. Yeah, capitalism.

"I think by the time we have to talk about the election, which is in another few months, I think our prices are in good shape," he said in the interview.

But he has famously said "affordability" is a hoax perpetrated by Democrats.

If "affordability" is a hoax, why are prices not already "in good shape"?

I wonder if the WSJ reporter asked him if he was lying to us when he said that?

The headline should read: "Trump admits lying about affordability being a Democratic hoax."

then there will be a mass exodus of repukes from the house and maybe one or two from the senate.

hopefully the Dems, who would be then in control can save the nation from a true death spiral.

Not that I wish hard times on anyone, but the policies are what they are, and they are bad, and the more people realize that as midterms approach, the better.

living from SS check to SS check, and each month it costs more to try to live. It's not just the tariffs on food, etc... although my grocery bill went up from $200 to $250 this past week (and no, I bought basically the same as always, just let a few things I usually buy slide this time around).

But Insurance on House and Car... state property taxes. Everything is maxing out, and killing us.

This month, I had a little over $2000 in SS checks.
House insurance was around $1400+
Car insurance (2 cars) was $500+
Property taxes were over $1500 /six months
About $1200 in medical expenses that my MA didn't pay for hubby's previous hospitalization in Oct.

We're living more and more on using the credit card to get us by for food and necessities. And I hate it. I try to pay them off each month they come in, but what I went through this month, I'll be MONTHS trying to pay it all down and out. And, it has to be done before February, because insurance for the cars comes due 3 Feb. And then we get to hang on until May, when house insurance, cars, and property taxes hit again.

Things is, hubby and I both have chronic conditions. I'm trying to maintain NOT going to docs or specialists (and adding on other meds), by living month to month on my hydrocodone script. Which, if they use AI in healthcare, scares me to death.

Meanwhile, hubby is worse with heart attacks. He HAS to go to the hospital. But we have NO hospital in this little rural town, so we have to travel 45 miles to get to the nearest one. That means, calling EMS so they can transport him. It's all a racket!
