WASHINGTON, Dec 12 (Reuters) - U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem on Friday terminated the collective bargaining agreement covering 47,000 Transportation Security Administration officers.
The American Federation of Government Employees, which represents the airport screening officers, said it will file suit to challenge the decision.
In June, a U.S. judge issued a preliminary injunction blocking Noems March 7 attempt to end the collective bargaining agreement. DHS said it will implement a new labor framework on January 11 and will no longer be collecting union dues from TSA officers' paychecks.

He declined the health insurance through our union contract to be on his wife's insurance, because her TSA union health plan was better.
This is fucking rich.

(205 posts)What if they all called in sick and no one manned the airports? If Homeland Security wants to engage in union busting, let them try to hire scabs to be TSA agents. Not going to happen. The TSA agents have the power to severely limit air travel in the country if collective bargaining is not honored.

(164,702 posts)They'll just illegally fire them (since they wouldn't be "on strike", which is forbidden by federal workers). Would make "great TV" for this "reality show" administration, while DOT would probably have to call for a nationwide ground stop.

(99,475 posts)On top of this bullshit is that the highest GS pay level most TSA workers are at is GS04 which comes to around $30K annually, not a great pay. My last gig with the government was GS05 and that wasn't above $35K annually back in 2016.

(164,702 posts)But am surprised that they weren't classified as "WG", so there's that! I had some coworkers in my agency who did certain administrative/custodian work and found that a WG category salary was coming in higher than the GS. One of our long-time secretaries who eventually retired after 40 years (and that was like more than 20 years ago), was a GS-2 when she retired.
I expect it's the "college credits" thing that makes a difference for starting anywhere above a GS-5.
I know when I first started as a fed (Chemist GS-1320 series) back in the '80s, I came in as a GS-5. Years later, that series had a starting of GS-7.

(99,475 posts)An advanced degree but didn't get me any higher classification. I had better pay as an AD with the Census Bureau than as a GS05 with NPS and USDA-FS but I did have benefits with the Census Bureau I didn't.
Some of that changed significantly after 2016 when shithead took over and fucked it all up.

(99,475 posts)I wonder when they will all just decide that the job just isn't worth it without protections from the contract? And do they actually have jobs if the contract is nullified? Getting time to stop flying for a spell until this shit gets straightened out.

(164,702 posts)to get a union (under Obama in 2011 after a lot of lobbying, blood, sweat, and tears), So in the scheme of things, there should be a good chunk of them still there from when they first went under AFGE, although I expect that is also a high-turnover job too.
