Republican launches bill to force fathers to pay for half of pregnancy expenses

Source: The Independent

Wednesday 10 December 2025 19:53 EST

A House Republican is trying to introduce a bill that would ensure fathers are contributing to the cost of pregnancies.

Congresswoman Ashley Hinson of Iowa introduced a bill called the Supporting Healthy Pregnancy Act. The bill, if passed, would require states to ensure that biological fathers pay for at least 50 percent of the out-of-pocket medical costs associated with a pregnancy and delivery, including health insurance premiums, according to Fox News.

The bill excludes any costs relating to abortion and has other specific limitations on what fathers are expected to cover. Mothers would have to request contributions from the father before the state steps in and enforces the payments.

The proposed legislation appears to be a move by the GOP to align with its pro-family messaging. Republicans have long been criticized by Democrats, who claim that they are ostensibly pro-family and anti-abortion while also refusing to support mothers with the financial burdens of having a child.

Will see how long this GOP women "woke feminism" lasts before they relent and apologize to their GOP male "owners".

That thought was 'Well, this won't go very far. Those alphas will never accept any responsibilities for their actions in any way. You think they are going to allow this?'

2. That bill will make relationships with women more expensive for males.

Government policies have consequences. If you want less of something, financially penalize it.

"Keep Your Pants On" bill for Republican agenda. Why aren't they called "woke"?

Or is it the "Wine, Dine, and Medical Bills" bill?

This could spawn more trans relationships than any other GOP measure.

far exceeds the costs of birthing a child. Are republicans going to hound deadbeat Dads for those costs as well, or are they going to revert to the "after the womb we don't give a shit" GOP thinking?
Stay tuned. 😉

These men want abortion outlawed and fetuses to be called people, then they need to pay from conception.

Cuts are coming the 1st of the year, many will lose insurance. My guess is that an out of pocket pregnancy won't be cheap.

Medicaid cuts are coming later next year I believe, right after the election.

Women are more at risk of domestic violence while pregnant. Although it says the woman has to request the state to get involved, what pressures will she face as the state cuts health care access? And who will chase these deadbeat dads and set up the financial arrangements? Will they hire more case managers and create some enforcement? Of course fathers should be responsible but the state has a lousy record when they get involved in personal affairs.

12. 85% of pregnant women killed by husband/boyfriend

October 21, 2022 – Women in the U.S. who are pregnant or who have recently given birth are more likely to be murdered than to die from obstetric causes—and these homicides are linked to a deadly mix of intimate partner violence and firearms, according to researchers from Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.

Homicide deaths among pregnant women are more prevalent than deaths from hypertensive disorders, hemorrhage, or sepsis, wrote Rebecca Lawn, postdoctoral research fellow, and Karestan Koenen, professor of psychiatric epidemiology, in an October 19 editorial in the journal BMJ.

The U.S. has a higher prevalence of intimate partner violence than comparable countries, such violence is often fatal, and it frequently involves guns, Lawn and Koenen noted. They cited one study that found that, from 2009–2019, 68% of pregnancy-related homicides involved firearms. That study also found that Black women face substantially higher risk of being killed than white or Hispanic women.

abuse begins in pregnancy. Is it related to jealousy of the baby or need to control? Could be financial concerns causing anger in unplanned pregnancy? I suppose there are hundreds of causes.

In my extended family the pregnant ladies were put on a pedestal and treated with added respect and caring. The thought of abusing a pregnant woman makes my thinking go all out of alignment.

Women struggle to get child support even when it’s court ordered!

What about all the women who were just dating a guy and they got pregnant? They don’t stand a chance in he** of getting any help from them.

That takes having a lawyer and money and time.

How about being a young gal starting out in her career with some college debt along with other standard 21-century level expenses in an urban setting?

She’s not going to be in a financial position to sue.
