Detainees at 'Alligator Alcatraz' facing 'harrowing human right violations', new report alleges

Detainees at the notorious Florida immigration jail known as “Alligator Alcatraz” were shackled inside a 2ft high metal cage and left outside without water for up to a day at a time, a shocking report published on Thursday by Amnesty International alleges. The human rights group said migrants held at the state-run Everglades facility, and at Miami’s Krome immigration processing center operated by a private company on behalf of the Trump administration, continue to be exposed to “cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment” rising in some cases to torture.

The cage, known to detainees as “the box”, is used by guards for the arbitrary punishment of trivial or non-existent offenses, according to the report compiled from interviews with detainees and advocacy groups, and a site visit to Krome made by Amnesty workers in September.

“It’s a box outside, exposed to the south Florida sun and humidity, and exposed to mosquitos,” one detainee told the group. “One time, two people in my cell were calling out to the guards telling them that I needed my medication. Ten guards rushed into the cell and threw them to the ground. They were taken to the ‘box’ and punished just for trying to help me. I saw a guy who was put in it for an entire day.”

The Florida department of emergency management (DEM) operates “Alligator Alcatraz” independently of federal facilities under the umbrella of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

That a court order closed this operation down. The Administration is still operating this horror chamber?

My God! Once this comes to an end (and it will), the people responsible for these crimes against humanity need to be brought to justice. They should use the same standard the infamous, macho-warrior Hegseth presumably uses:

No Quarter.

These are crimes against humanity and if the Democratic candidate in 2028 does not promise to remand these people and turn them over to The Hague for trials, I may be done with this nation and its withered, rotted soul.

Treat others as you wish to be treated.

(To ICE) Be careful what you put out there. It could come back to you.

Abu Graib? under Cheney/Rumsfeld took place and nothing was done.........So why doesn't anyone believe this could happen again...........
You are correct FS, the entire Trump/Republican CABAL is hell bent on destroying America with orders coming from Putin directly to Trump........
A friend is a naturalized Russian, who talks often with his family in Russia. I asked him what the Russian people thought about what was going on in the USA. He said they are all laughing at how easily Putin has PLAYED Trump and the Republicans.......And that Putin is destroying the U.S. Economy, the Constitution, law and order, and the citizens, without him having to start a war with the U.S. or fire a single rocket or missile......

Not many people are going to be like, "Fuck Yeah, give me some of that". I have travelled to countries with some pretty sketchy laws but I never worried about it as long as I was careful and did not break any laws but the US it could be just because I travelled there as a non-citizen that could land me into one of those disdainful, torturous lockups. I cannot imagine living in the hell your are living right now, we have had several Canadians held, including children under 4, not sure how many are still in detention centres.

inhumane conditions by putting them in what can be considered a dog kennel for medium size dogs.

Those are the places our military should be attacking. Democrats better damn well put an end to this sh*t when they get back in power like they should have done before. No delay, no wait and see attitude no f*cking diplomacy arrest, conviction, incarceration in that order.
End ICE, PRIVATE PRISONS and PRIVATE MILITARY. Cut the defense budget, end the industrial military complex. YESTERDAY.
