Maxwell Frost: 20 House Republicans a 'no' on 'big, beautiful bill'

Source: The Hill

07/02/25 9:34 AM ET

Rep. Maxwell Frost (D-Fla.) said Tuesday evening that “about 20 Republicans” currently oppose President Trump’s mammoth tax and spending measure, and more may join them as pressure mounts and as House Democrats work to delay its passage.

“They can only lose three or four [votes], and it’s done,” Frost told MSNBC’s Jen Psaki in an interview after the Senate narrowly passed the bill following a marathon debate and efforts to tamp down pushback from moderate Republicans in the GOP-controlled upper chamber.

Frost said discussions are ongoing with moderates and ultra conservative House Republicans who have spoken out about various provisions of the bill, which would extend the tax cuts from Trump’s first term while cutting funding for social safety net programs like Medicaid and food stamps, but he argued GOP members on both fronts seem to “always fold.”

“They put up a little fight, so that way they have some footage that they can put behind their ads during election time, and then they fold right away,” Frost said. “Sometimes they stick to it, so we’ll see.”

(which is what was done with the ACA, the BIB, IRA, and I think even with the original tax cuts for billionaires bill) was to create a "Joint Conference Committee" with members from both Chambers who would jam whatever those Committee members come up with together to create ONE version of the bill for both chambers to vote on. This saves time on all the back and forth between chambers and amending the amendments to the amendments.

The "problem" (for them) was this ridiculous attempt to get it done in 4 months - not for the purpose of actually getting it renewed before it expires (which doesn't happen until the end of the calendar year meaning they DO have more time), but to have it "for show" for a "July 4th Victory Lap and Party".

These animals will pass this bill I'm afraid as they're all afraid of having to stand in the corner or worse, get called a bad name by trump.
