Trump Appears Unaware Supreme Court Ruled 9-0 Against Him: 'That's Not What My People Told Me'

President Donald Trump claims his lawyers have told him that the Supreme Court’s ruling on Kilmar Abrego Garcia does not mean he needs to bring back the man accidentally deported to an El Salvador megaprison. In an interview with TIME, the president was asked about the Supreme Court’s 9-0 order telling the administration to effectuate Garcia’s return.
The administration has maintained that Garcia is an MS-13 gang member despite no prior convictions and their admission that he was sent to El Salvador by mistake. Asked if he’s “disobeying” the Supreme Court, Trump said, “That’s not what my people told me — they didn’t say it was, they said it was — the nine to nothing was entirely different.”
The ruling orders the government to “facilitate and effectuate the return of [Abrego Garcia] to the United States by no later than 11:59 PM on Monday, April 7.”
“I leave that to my lawyers,” Trump said when asked if he is actively facilitating Garcia’s return. “I give them no instructions. They feel that the order said something very much different from what you’re saying. But I leave that to my lawyers. If they want — and that would be Attorney General of the United States and the people that represent the country. I don’t make that decision.”

(10,974 posts)I've got people working on that. The lawyers are dealing with that. Nobody told me that. I've got two guys working on that. We are working on that right now. We will have something tremendous in two months. It's a scratched record of BS.

Then "poof" ... it's no longer a lie .. it's the "new truth."

(45,265 posts)In suggests that the 9-0 Supreme Court ruling ordered the government to "facilitate and effectuate the return of [Abrego Garcia] to the United States by no later than 11:59 PM on Monday, April 7.” But that's what the district court originally ordered. That deadline initially was stayed by the Supreme Court, which then ruled 9-0 that the district court should clarify its order, stating as follows:
... the deadline in the challenged order is no longer effective. The rest of the District Court’s order remains in effect but requires clarification on remand. The order properly requires the Government to “facilitate” Abrego Garcia’s release from custody in El Salvador and to ensure that his case is handled as it would have been had he not been improperly sent to El Salvador. The intended scope of the term “effectuate” in the District Court’s order is, however, unclear, and may exceed the District Court’s authority. The District Court should clarify its directive, with due regard for the deference owed to the Executive Branch in the conduct of foreign affairs. For its part, the Government should be prepared to share what it can con- cerning the steps it has taken and the prospect of further steps."
I have no doubt that Trump has been misinformed about what the Court ruled, or is incapable of understanding it. But that doesn't excuse Mediaite misrepresenting the Court's decision.

(913 posts)I'm powerless so I can't be in trouble. This from the guy that told his lawyers what to say and write during the trial that made him a FELON. BTW, again, "I leave that to my lawyers"? Does he mean the United States Of America's Justice Dept.? Or, the Lawyers that lost the State of New York's criminal case against him that resulted in him being found guilty of felony charges and becoming a FELON.

(117 posts)The proper judicial ruling, IMO, would be to call the lawyers before the bench and strip them of their license to practice. Donny's word can be taken as fact in this regard. Let the attorneys find jobs at Wal-Mart.
