Trump jokes about running for a third term in speech to House Republicans
Source: NBC
DORAL, Fla. President Donald Trump publicly mused about running for a third term Monday in remarks that House Republicans in the room saw as a joke but one that Trump keeps repeating.
Ive raised a lot of money for the next race that I assume I cant use for myself, but Im not 100% sure, Trump told House Republicans at a gathering here, one week after he was sworn into office for a second term. I think Im not allowed to run again.
Trump continued to entertain the prospect of yet another presidential run, prodding Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., who moments earlier had introduced him onstage, to promise a new renaissance.
(snip)
Trump's remarks at the House Republicans' annual issues retreat at Trump National Doral, his golf club and resort outside Miami, came just days after an ally in the House introduced a measure that would set in motion the process to adopt a constitutional amendment allowing him to seek a third term. The bill has not advanced at all in the chamber.

(6,308 posts)exactly as I predicted so many times. I said to give it a week, and here we are, right on cue.
Of course he will run again, regardless the law, in order to keep the grift going. He's never had it so good, milking free cash from his cult of rubes. He'll say shit like "people are saying" and "we're looking at it seriously" and the usual bullshit. And he will ramp up his "campaign" fundraising while the outrage plays out in the media and while he slow-walks it up the ladder in court to his SCrOTUS pals.
It's not about winning, he doesn't care about that. It's too lucrative for him to ever willingly walk away from campaigning, from raising money. Of course he will "run" again, it's free cash.

(14,263 posts)Theres more money to be made drifting the government, selling off/out the government, than there is from campaigning. But he has to stay in power to keeping going.

(6,308 posts)He won't leave money on the table, especially because of some silly rules he doesn't think apply to him anyways. Campaigning has been a lucrative grift for him, he won't willingly give it up.
