Trump wants Egypt and Jordan to take in Palestinians from Gaza. Here's why the idea is rejected.

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) President Donald Trumps suggestion that Egypt and Jordan take in Palestinians from the war-ravaged Gaza Strip was met with a hard no Sunday from the two U.S. allies along with the Palestinians themselves, who fear Israel would never allow them to return.
Trump floated the idea on Saturday, saying he would urge the leaders of the two Arab countries to take in Gazas now largely homeless population, so that we just clean out that whole thing. He added that resettling most of Gazas population of 2.3 million could be temporary or long term.
Hamas and the Western-backed Palestinian Authority condemned the idea. Jordans foreign minister, Ayman Safadi, told journalists that his countrys rejection of the proposed transfer of Palestinians was firm and unwavering.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahus far-right governing partners have long advocated what they describe as the voluntary emigration of large numbers of Palestinians and the reestablishment of Jewish settlements in Gaza. Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, who is now a crucial member of Netanyahus governing coalition, called Trumps proposal a great idea.

MFer is an idiot who thinks everything should have an easy button. Kneejerk speculation is not going to help solve this situation.
But we all knew this already.

(35,676 posts)He also proposed a "temporary relocation" of Gazans to the Negev so they wouldn't be in the way during reconstruction.
MFer is reviving that debate. I don't think he's going to find many takers among Arab Govts or the Palestinians themselves.

(32,048 posts)This isn't just between Trump, Egypt and Jordan. He just can't go overseas and wave a "magic wand".
Sure he can agree to support Netanyahu, but it is what it is. He's not the boss. Trump can't order deportations from Gaza. Not his party, not his circus!

(312 posts)At least, in Jordan, and the results were terrible for the government that took them in, eventually leading to Black September in 1970 (of course it's FAR MORE COMPLICATED than that), which in turn lead to the Palestinians finding refuge in Lebanon, which in turn precipitated another cycle of turmoil and destabilization (google Beirut in the 1960s for a comparison). Egypt is precarious enough for their leadership without adding more potential threats.

(838 posts)Its clear the rampant devastation of Gaza was planned. Then suggesting the relocation of the entire Gaza population to two unknown countries and cultures, making these people permanent migrants. Its plain to see this is ethnic cleansing but I dont see anyone saying this quiet part out loud!

(35,676 posts)Or something else? A collaboration w/ Hamas?
It's not a very effective ethnic cleansing - Gaza started w/ 2.3 million Palestinians, now it has 2.25 million Palestinians, who aren't going anywhere despite MFer's irresponsible spitballing.

If the dotard wants to move all Palestinians out of Gaza, what would you call it?
maxsolomon
(35,676 posts)That was your post, right?

(838 posts)was that by accident? Please explain!

(35,676 posts)you're the one asserting that "it was planned". planned when? by whom?
hamas planned that the IDF would be drawn into urban combat and lose the support of the west. israel planned how they would engage hamas troops and attack the tunnel system.
did either side plan that the result of this conflict would be a moonscape of rubble? i don't know, but you asserted that it was a deliberate plan. please explain.
