Trump's move to freeze Biden-approved funding draws howls from Democrats
Source: The Hill
Democrats are sounding the alarm over President Trumps move to freeze funding approved in two of former President Bidens signature laws.
Trump issued an executive order pausing the disbursement of funds appropriated through the Inflation Reduction Act and the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.
Democrats say Trumps order appears to violate a law called the Impoundment Control Act (ICA), which lays out limits on how much power a president has to restrict funding approved by Congress.
Rep. Rosa DeLauro (Conn.), the top Democrat on the House Appropriations Committee, bashed the measure this week as illegally impounding critical investments, while adding uncertainty to every company, nonprofit organization, and state and local government that has any stake in either of those laws.

This is all language that comes straight out of the Trump press shop. I understand that LBN has to use the specific headline, but we should be clear about what we're posting. This is fascist triumphalism masquerading as headline. Maybe find an article from a legitimate publication.

Specifically, within hours of his inauguration, President Trump ordered a 90-day pause in foreign development assistance and instructed the attorney general and secretary of the Department of Homeland Security to ensure that sanctuary cities do not receive federal funds, among other things. In these blanket declarations, Trump directed agencies to withhold funds entirely outside the statutory scheme established by Congress, and he made it clear that these withholdings serve to align use of the funds with his policy preferences, an unauthorized reason for a delay under the ICA.
Allowing President Trumps actions to remain unchallenged sets a dangerous precedent for future brazen power grabs. The idea that the president can stop spending for any congressionally approved program for any reason, for any amount of time, and without a single communication to Congress lacks merit and inverts the proper separation of powers between the legislative and executive branches. The Constitution does not give the president unilateral authority to withhold enacted funding, and our democracy hinges on our system of checks and balances. The public relies on the executive branch faithfully executing the law, and it is imperative that Congress exercise its oversight authority to investigate this executive overreach, demand transparency from the executive branch, and direct the release of any improperly withheld funds.

(1,640 posts)Actually, with MAGA in congress, there is nothing that could be done. They have created a monster, and madman who does not care about any norms or even laws. He can get away with nearly anything and no one can or would stop him. I am sure we can rely on Trump's better nature, right?
