Metas Facebook and Instagram are drawing criticism for blurring, blocking or removing two abortion pill providers posts, which has become more evident in recent days and is another escalation of the companys rightward swing as President Donald Trump returned to the White House.
Several abortion pill providers also had their accounts suspended and were similarly hidden from appearing in search and recommendation results, according to a Thursday report in The New York Times.
Pill providers told the publication that the efforts have become increasingly obvious over the last two days.

Content from their accounts or in some cases, their entire accounts were no longer visible on Instagram, the Times reported Thursday. Meta, which owns Facebook and Instagram, confirmed the account suspensions and the blurring of posts. The company restored some of the accounts and posts on Thursday, after The New York Times asked about the actions.

(2,698 posts)And I preached that our glee in shutting down "disinformation" and having the government take an active roll in monitoring and pressuring social media would come to bite us in the ass. Without fail, when we stifle the first amendment, when we enact policies that may help us in the short term but do harm to the foundations that support the first amendment, it is always a net negative.
Controlling the narrative seems great when you are the one controlling it. But when the assholes are in charge, it doesn't feel quite so good.
Hopefully we, as a party, can get back to our roots of vigorously defending the first amendment rights of all, even if we don't like what is being said.
What facebook is doing is wrong now and similar actions they too were wrong four years ago also. They have evolved beyond a private entity that can censor with impunity to something that should be treated for first amendment purposes as a public forum.
Um no. Disinformation MUST be "shut down". The government's "role" in it can be through encouraging vetted 3rd parties to monitor and challenge misinformation, disinformation, and that info.
The SCOTUS upheld how the Biden Administration handled this. There was no "censorship" of any of the bullshit that flew out there but simply a notification to those entities about the misinformation and disinformation appearing on their platforms, that could literally cause harm (e.g., the continued insistence on the use of ivermectin to treat COVID, etc).
How those entities respond, which is what the subject of this OP is about, is completely separate from anything that the previous administration has done. THEY make their own decisions as private entities.
IOW, "You can lead a horse to water but you can't make them drink".
