A barricaded suspect shot and wounded four police officers Wednesday night who had responded to a residential call in San Antonio, Texas, officials said. The shooting occurred at an apartment complex in the Stone Oak neighborhood of north San Antonio.

San Antonio Police Chief William McManus told reporters that the incident unfolded when officers responded to a call from a family member of the suspect regarding a "suicide in progress."

The four officers were hospitalized with what were believed to be non-life-threatening injuries, McManus said.

As of late Wednesday night, the suspect, described as a man in his 40s, remained barricaded inside an apartment. Some surrounding units had been evacuated. The exact circumstances that led up to the shooting were still unclear. McManus did not say if the officers returned fire.

Stone Oak is considered "one of the most beautiful and beloved neighborhoods" of San Antonio, Texas per https://www.mysanantonio.com/. This is what some of the apartment buildings look like.

In an average year, 4,122 people die and 7,726 are wounded by guns in Texas. The Lone Star State has the 29th highest rate of gun violence in the US. Gun deaths and injuries cost Texas $51.3 billion each year, of which $1.1 billion is paid by taxpayers.

What we know about Brandon Poulos, the man accused of shooting 7 SAPD officers in Stone Oak
SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio police have identified a man accused of shooting seven police officers in Stone Oak during a response to a suicide in progress call.

The suspect, identified as Brandon Scott Poulos, 46, was found dead after the standoff on Wednesday night, police said.

Court records show Poulos was arrested on Saturday, Jan. 18, and charged four times.

His charges included assault causing bodily injury-family member, two counts of injury to a child, elderly, or disabled person with intent bodily injury and one count of DWI. Poulos was released on bond the following day, according to court records.

Yes, Stone Oak is a nice area. However, it happened at an apartment and yes, these were nice apartments, but considering the guy is 46 and this location close to the freeway, I really don't believe this is about "wealthy people" or has anything to do with
socioeconomics. (When people live in apartments, they tend to go for "nice" because apartments are the pits) My daughter lived in a nicer apartment when she was 25. Just another case of domestic violence and an violent person with a gun. It's the pits that he was released on bond. I also read that he violated a protective order also. I'm glad he didn't kill anyone.
