Trump Questions FEMA's Usefulness And Says He'd 'Rather See The States Take Care Of Their Own Problems'

Source: Forbes

President Donald Trump on Wednesday criticized the Federal Emergency Management Agency and suggested he wants to have a discussion soon on its future, continuing his attack on the federal disaster response agency, which he and other GOP leaders have accused of being biased against Republicans.

In an interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity from the Oval Office, Trump addressed the ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles, before saying: “FEMA is gonna be a whole big discussion very shortly.”

The president said he’d “rather see the states take care of their own problems.”

Trump attacked FEMA, saying the agency has not done its “job for the last four years,” and suggested Democrats did not care about disasters in states like North Carolina, but are eager to get federal support to deal with the Los Angeles fires.

Costs me nothing, gives them nothing and then I can just go back to watching them suffer and smugly say: "FUCK YOU PAY ME." (reference is 1990's 'Goodfellas' by Martin Scorsese)...but in all seriousness, if these morons really believe that the next hurricane to hit the Gulf shores is going to be handled strictly by local government agencies, I can't help them, they are simply too stupid (or too cruel) to exist.

The 1988 Stafford Act and the 2022 Community Disaster Resilience Zones Act mandate actions by FEMA which means FEMA has to exist to do it. Like many of these things there are laws entangled in the functions of these different agencies and you cannot pretend they don't exist.

Plus I don't see Republicans in the House or Senate having much of an appetite to dissolve FEMA no matter how much TSF screams and shouts about it.

But everything has its limits. FEMA actually has a good reputation and has performed very well these last four years.
These moves to cripple NIH or rollback FEMA will directly impact their constituents in a very loud and physical way, if something goes wrong and the only people to blame will be Republicans. You have your kool-aid drinkers in Congress but when push comes to shove, most care a lot more about reelection than they do about a lame duck president and his crazy agenda.

The recent fires here in LA not withstanding it seems to me that the states that most use FEMA are pretty much all red and one in particular is going to be getting hit very hard in the future by climate pesky non-existent climate change.

This particular idea of his might not be so bad.

states should take care of their own problems going forward for the next 4 years. By the time the
2028 election rolls around R voters will be tired of an R Government who refuses to help R
communities in need of help after a natural disaster.

Maybe they'll wake up and start voting D.

But, that also means we will not be paying the federal government the same amount of taxes that we did pay... I mean, since we are supposed to deal with our own problems. Why give the federals money if they are not oging to help us?Of course, that is not what you meant, but that is the reality of denying us the use of our tax dollars. So, if you don't want these programs, lower our taxes. Because we are not going to give you money to run something that you are obviously not going to run.

Besides, your lot are the ones who keep interfering with disaster relief in N.C., not the Democrats.
