House Republicans announce new subcommittee to investigate Jan. 6

Source: NBC News

Jan. 22, 2025, 2:57 PM EST

WASHINGTON — House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., announced Wednesday the creation of a select subcommittee to investigate events before and after Jan. 6, 2021. “House Republicans are proud of our work so far in exposing the false narratives peddled by the politically motivated January 6 Select Committee during the 117th Congress, but there is still more work to be done,” Johnson said in a statement.

The subcommittee’s mission is to “uncover the full truth that is owed to the American people,” Johnson said. The speaker didn't make clear what false narratives he alleges were made by the original select committee.

Rep. Barry Loudermilk, R-Ga., will chair the new subcommittee, which will fall under the jurisdiction of the House Judiciary Committee chaired by Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio.

Notably, Loudermilk had given a tour of the Capitol to people the day before the insurrection, which included a man who was caught on footage during the Jan. 6 riot, later released by the select committee that investigated the attack, making violent verbal threats against top Democratic lawmakers. The rioter who made the threats, Trevor Hallgren, “took pictures of hallways and staircases” during Loudermilk’s tour, according to the final report released by the former Jan. 6 select committee.

It can't be explained away.

On January 6th of 2021, after making his speech at the ellipse, Trump proceeded to the White House and watched the attack on the Capitol from the dining room for three hours before making any attempt to subdue the situation. During this time multiple people including Sean Hannity and his own daughter emphatically urged him to take some action. It was obvious that something needed to be done. It was also obvious that the perpetrators were acting on his behalf. The Vice President who was whisked away to a safe location, contacted him to call them off, and Trump Blew him off. Trump 's inaction was for his own selfish and delusional reasons. The end result was the death and injury to several Capitol police officers and the death of one attacker. This dinning room incident is the most stark, unequivocal demonstration of Donald Trump's unfitness for office. . It can't be explained away. It can't be muddled. These are the actions of an unstable sociopath with no conscience.

The last thing they will want is for their own involvement to become apparent.

They will certainly have to stay away from the fake electors scheme.

They'll probably concentrate on videos of overwhelmed Capitol Police officers seeming to welcome the "tourists".

Hope they don't try to purge that website although I expect that stuff is long-archived all over the world (and in personal collections).

Watched traitor felon incite the crowd, watched hours of television and saw all that MSNBC aired. I didn't need a J6 committee to verify that traitor felon tried to overthrow the country.

I needed the strongest response from law and governance to stop the overthrow of our government, to prevent the overthrow of my country. I didn't get that. As long as the unhuman candidate is supported by a venal party and abetted by rwnj lawyers, politicians and quasi religious fringe humans, our country is not ours.

The people who support the traitor felon because they fear being exposed for illegal or perverted acts, know they did something wrong, or want to keep doing something wrong. So all of us who walk the straight and narrow get no reward for upholding the law. We get the punishment of criminals in charge of our country.
