Immigrant roundups begin

Source: MSNBC, WashPost

MSNBC reporting ICE has arrested 308 "criminal immigrants." Watching MSNBC, do not have a link.

Meanwhile, Trump is threatening local officials

QUOTE
The Trump administration late Tuesday directed federal prosecutors nationwide to investigate and potentially prosecute state and local officials who don’t cooperate with the president’s plans to carry out the largest mass deportation campaign in U.S. history, according to a document obtained by The Washington Post.

and prepare to go to jail and take their cases to court. Dozens of trials around the country will in essence put this criminal president on trial in the realm of public opinion. Most folks won't like it when their Parrish priest or mayor is imprisoned.

Flights that were scheduled for asylum seekers have been canceled. The asylum ban was to go into effect Jan 27th but a memo upped it to immediately. 10,000 asylum seekers were scheduled to come here.

I guess the only foreigners allowed in will be Musk's H-1b visa workers.

If they were serious about really catching the "bad people", they would not be announcing where they are going, showing how they are doing it and so on. Bad people have a smart way of getting lost when the heat is on. I am sure Trump will say they are self deporting or some nonsense but in fact meaningful numbers will be elusive. While it is right to worry about innocents getting caught up in this, we should worry about the long term consequences as well. If they do deport meaningful numbers with 40% of construction workers being immigrants and 85% or more of farm laborers being that, impacts to business and the economy is likely. Moreover, Mexico and many countries in Central America are already or on the cusp of being failed states. The drug cartels allow these countries' governments to exist but to a large extent, nothing happens unless the cartels allow it. The more we trap people in these countries the worse things will get and it will affect us all.

Most had received their orders from a judge to leave the country or report for being removed. They not only entered illegally but they were here in defiance of a court order following due process. So it's like having a criminal not show up when he's supposed to report for detention.

Others were accused (or charged or convicted--articles aren't clear on this point) of things like attempted murder, rape, or child abuse.

These are people that Obama or Biden would have rounded up at some point.

Or maybe we support those who defy court orders?

Soon enough begin roundups of all those whose only crime is their undocumented status, as well as their families.
*SMACK*
Then roundups of those with expired visas.
*SMACK*
Then roundups of immigrants with any irregularity whatsoever or a history of resisting Trumpism.
*SMACK*
Then dissenters generally.
