Prince Harry wins legal battle against Murdoch papers, the Sun admits wrongdoing

Source: USA Today

LONDON - Prince Harry settled his privacy claim against Rupert Murdoch's UK newspaper group on Wednesday after the publisher admitted unlawful actions at its Sun tabloid for the first time, bringing the fiercely contested legal battle to a dramatic end.

In a stunning victory for Harry, 40, the younger son of King Charles III, News Group Newspapers, publisher of The Sun and the now-defunct News of the World, also admitted it had intruded into the private life of his late mother, Princess Diana.

Harry's lawyer, David Sherborne, said the publisher had agreed to pay the prince substantial damages. A source familiar with the settlement said it involved an eight-figure sum.

Harry had been suing NGN at the High Court in London, accusing its newspapers of unlawfully obtaining private information about him from 1996 until 2011.

Prince Harry settles legal claim against Sun publishe

The Duke of Sussex has settled his high court legal action at the eleventh hour against the publisher of the Sun, News Group Newspapers (NGN).

NGN offered "a full and unequivocal apology" to Prince Harry "for the phone hacking, surveillance and misuse of private information by journalists and private investigators instructed by them" at the News of the World.

It will also pay "substantial damages" as the two sides settled their legal claim, Harry's barrister, David Sherborne, has told the high court.[/excerpt

I guess it refills Meghan's Netflix-depleted coffers for a short time, so there is that, I suppose.

has been whether Harry and Magan should pay for their own security., or even pay for policing when Prince Harry is back in the UK: While Little Britain's one inch minds are fighting over fish heads He is better off well away from that pathetic shitshow.

See below. I’ve seen Hugh Grant discussing a really weird instance involving him. At the height of his rom-com fame he came home to find a stalker in his apartment. He called the police. The tabloid paparazzi and reporters arrived before the police got there. The tabloids paid sources in the police force.

Several other high-profile figures have settled their cases against NGN, with 39 people settling claims between July and December last year.

In April, the High Court heard that the actor Hugh Grant had settled his case against NGN because of the risk of a £10m legal bill if his case went to trial.

Sherborne said at that hearing that “the Duke of Sussex is subject to the same issues that Sienna Miller and Hugh Grant have been subject to, which is that the offers are made that make it impossible for them to go ahead”.

They exposed the painful mistreatment at the hands of the other Royals in multiple media opportunities which I understood—but having done so they just would not/will not let it go and live their (quite privileged) lives in the US as they had planned. So sympathies are shifting as would be natural in the case of any other individuals in similar circumstances--especially given Kate's remitted cancer and his father, Charle's terminal cancer.

I had nothing but sympathy and admiration for the couple at first. Now, less so.(and I am NO Royalist, just someone who believes in compassion for others). That is not "hate" (as you want to throw out to everyone in a truly unwarranted manner) but DISAPPOINTMENT.

Only that the two sides settled. As carried by the Boston Globe, and probably elsewhere through AP, no mention at all that Harry was the clear victor. MSM siding with their brother?

financial back and dismantled his entire evil empire. I would throw a party and dance all night at that news. But at least this might stop them from further terrorizing Harry and his family. It’s a very small victory when you consider the damage Murdoch has caused to millions of people, including all Americans.
