Trump fires first woman to head a US military service

WASHINGTON President Donald Trump's administration has removed Admiral Linda Fagan the first woman to lead a U.S. military service as the head of the Coast Guard.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS), which oversees the Coast Guard, did not immediately respond to a request on Tuesday for comment on Fagan's dismissal.
Fox News cited a senior official saying reasons included her failure to address border security threats, excessive focus on diversity, equity and inclusion, and an "erosion of trust" over the Coast Guard's investigation into sexual assault cases.
Trump and other Republicans have long railed against government programs aimed at fostering diversity, and border security is a key priority for the president, who declared a national emergency at the U.S. frontier with Mexico on Monday, the first day of his new term.

(4,763 posts)But if they had put the actual reason, "Serving while simultaneously being in possession of a vagina" people might have been offended... by the use of the word vagina, not firing a woman for being a woman. That's SOP for Republicans.

(2,808 posts)He then proceeded to drop his bombshell about getting rid of homosexuals in the military. So ADM Zumkumpft (commandant at the time) did something rare and said publically that "we won't turn our back on our people".
So the USCG was a target for what I believe are the following reasons:
1. Whatever the fucked up reason was that Trump tried to sideline the USCG in the first place, which was probably that he had no idea what the USCG actually does.
2. Now he wants revenge because the USCG stood up to him.
3. The USCG is a smaller branch of the military and doesn't have the same lobbying power as the other services.
4. He can't tolerate a woman in a position with so much power.
5. He needed to make an example of someone, and she became an easy target for all the reasons above.
So let me say it here and I'll say it again and again: the republicans are cowards. They are mentally, physically and morally weak and depraved. Trump is a man-child with no real intellect or strength trying hard to make everyone fear him because no one likes him, not even those that are closest. The people that follow him are obsequious and fatuous, choosing to be stupid enablers because they are as repulsive as he is. The rest of their leadership is cruel, treasonous, and have gotten where they are by kissing the ass of people they think are strong or have money, and trodding on those they see as weak and helpless. Damn them all.

Maritime Law Enforcement: The Maritime Law Enforcement mission program protects America's maritime borders, defends the Nation's maritime sovereignty, facilitates legitimate use of the waterways, and suppresses violations of U.S. Federal law on, under, and over the seas to include illegal migration and Transnational Organized Crime
Now, I didn't know if that text was uploaded today so I checked the WayBack Machine. It was the same on 12/29/24. Page looks pretty much consistent, and that's the "first" in the list of 6.
And it was the same on 12/18/23.
So, dunno. We have maritime borders and it strikes me that the CBP doesn't have much of a fleet. Even back during the Marielito boatlift, the USCG was referenced quite a bit.

(11,230 posts)... since there must have been a white male who was better qualified who got passed over for that job. That attitude is itself evidence of the bias that DEI initiatives are aimed at. It's ironic, too, that one major reason Fagan was fired is that her DEI programs were too woke.
