Judge Aileen Cannon says Justice Department can't share Trump classified documents report with Congress

Source: CNN Politics

Published 10:27 AM EST, Tue January 21, 2025

CNN — Judge Aileen Cannon on Tuesday extended the hold she has placed blocking the Justice Department from sharing special counsel Jack Smith’s report on his investigation into President Donald Trump’s mishandling of classified documents with members of Congress.

Her order took some jabs at the prosecutors representing to the position of former Attorney General Merrick Garland, accusing them of misleading her at a court hearing Friday and asserting that they’ve failed to live up to the “special role” they play in the criminal justice system.

Before Trump’s inauguration, Garland sought to share the report privately with a small group of lawmakers on the condition that they do not disclose what they learn from it.

On Tuesday, Cannon embraced arguments put forward by Trump’s former co-defendants Walt Nauta and Carlos de Oliveira – two employees of his charged with obstruction-related crimes – that even limited disclosure could prejudice them if their cases ever went to trial. Cannon dismissed the prosecution last summer on the grounds that Smith was unconstitutionally appointed, but that ruling is on appeal, leaving the possibility that the charges could be revived.

and leaves the real bad people “blameless.”

Garland made sure to get Jack Smith’s j6 report out. Cannon used her power in the courts to stop the classified doc report.

Y’all should start blaming the real bad actors:

- The Republicans on SCOTUS who declared Trump above the law
- Aileen Cannon
- Trump’s legal team who effectively gamed the system and delayed everything w bogus ‘legal filings.’

You may think your CT makes you edgy, but it just makes you an unaware purveyor of MAGA nonsense.

The corruption is so wide and so deep in then Republicans it is not funny. Reality Winner got
5 years for 1 document and Trump got to become President again after the dirtiest election in
American History* and is going to make billions. American democracy is and law is all but dead
and people like Cannon have killed it for money and power.

And because of that, justice will never prevail.
He may have been a decent President, but Biden frustrated me. He had complete protection to take executive action and release that report. He could have issued pardons for so many other people, but he failed to do so. He left exposed the Vindman brothers, and everyone who put their careers and lives on the line to testify against Trump. Now they are vulnerable to retaliation.

There's so much Biden could have done, and he didn't. Carelessness? Inattention? He could have done so much more.

Ask all those who risked their careers and even their safety to testify against Trump if THEY don't feel abandoned by Biden. They deserved protection, and Biden didn't give it. You want to call me despicable for just voicing an opinion? Nice.

I don't know why those loyal public servants didn't get the protection they deserved. I'm being charitable by calling it "carelessness." Because if it's not carelessness, then what is it? Ruthless lack of respect for those who risked everything to be patriots? Either way, it doesn't make Biden or his team look good.

treat all presidents equally except for 45/47 (gag). They only seem to protect Trump. Was it fear, or knowing it could be a legal jeopardy for President Biden to release the report? I don't know.
