Bob Uecker dies at 90: Iconic Brewers broadcaster called games for 54 years, starred in 'Major League'

Source: CBS

Legendary broadcaster and former big-league player Bob Uecker died on Thursday at age 90, the Milwaukee Brewers announced. He had been battling small cell lung cancer since early 2023, his family revealed.

"It is with heavy hearts that we mourn the passing of Bob. To many, he was an announcer and entertainer whose humor and voice transcended the game, but to us he was so much more," his family said in a statement.

"He brought joy to countless listeners through his wit, charisma, and love for baseball, Milwaukee, and all of Wisconsin, creating a legacy that will forever be cherished. While his contributions to the game are noteworthy, it is his kindness, humility, and love for family and friends that we will hold closest to our hearts. We are grateful for the outpouring of love and support during this difficult time as we grieve and celebrate the man we were so lucky to call ours."

He never had a harsh or negative word about anyone, without being mealy mouthed. He always used his wit. It's going to be tough for us with "Mr. Baseball" silenced. RIP Ueck!

What is it about baseball that produces by FAR the most characters of all professional sports put together? I can think of nothing funny about the NFL, or any of its 'people', for example.

It used to be such a joy to listen to him on the radio, broadcasting the games. I shall miss him terribly, as will the Brewers fans. I am quite sure he has the best Uecker seats now to watch his beloved Brewers. We will miss you a ton, Bob.
