Israel and Hamas agree to ceasefire deal to pause Gaza war and release some hostages, mediators say

Source: Washington Post

DOHA, Qatar -- Israel and Hamas agreed to a ceasefire deal, mediators announced Wednesday, pausing a devastating 15-month war in the Gaza Strip and raising the possibility of winding down the deadliest and most destructive fighting between the bitter enemies.

The deal, coming after weeks of painstaking negotiations in the Qatari capital, promises the release of dozens of hostages held by Hamas in phases, the release of hundreds of Palestinian prisoners in Israel and would allow hundreds of thousands of people displaced in Gaza to return to what remains of their homes. It also would flood badly needed humanitarian aid into a devastated territory.

Three officials from the U.S. and one from Hamas confirmed that a deal had been reached, while a senior Israeli official said details are still being ironed out.

All three U.S. officials requested anonymity to discuss the contours of the deal before the official announcement by mediators in Doha. U.S. President Joe Biden was preparing to address the breakthrough agreement later Thursday, officials said.

I am glad they finally reached a deal. Joe Biden works so hard on it, now we know who’s going to take the credit.

“This EPIC ceasefire agreement could have only happened as a result of our Historic Victory in November, as it signalled to the entire World that my Administration would seek Peace and negotiate deals to ensure the safety of all Americans, and our Allies,” he wrote.

essentially the same deal months ago that Hamas signed off on but there were still buildings to destroy. Gaza is almost completely in ruins which was Israel's goal from the jump.

at any moment. Fingers crossed. Not all hostages, but 33 in the next six weeks? Another third Israel believes to be dead. So, what about the rest?

The nightmare will continue (for both hostages & their families, and innocent Gazans)...

Release 30 Palestinians for each (Israeli) civilian hostage, 50 (Palestinians) for each female (Israeli) soldier

Thats quite the grotesque ratio there. Shows you how willing Israel is to negotiate and how little Hamas wants to.

The number of Palestinian hostages Israel has held in jail without due process (including women and children) as compared to the number of Israeli hostages Palestine took on 10/7 is grotesque. Israel holding over 10,000 to the 250 or so Palestine took. That’s the reality.

... It lets the terrorists re-arm for the next promised attack. How many bloodthirsty clones of sinwar will be released by Israel? Many. It also breaks the cardinal rule of don't negotiate with terrorists, who now know they can do it again.

The people of Gaza are celebrating, not because the war they started is over, but because, in their eyes, they won.

Prayerfully, the remaining living hostages will heal. Thankfully, those not living will be buried properly and find their eternal rest.

It is so obvious that it was held up due to the election which caused many more Palestinians to die and the Israeli hostages to remain captive. It’s like no one sees this and giving all praise to Trump. This is what he wanted to happen and everyone can’t see the obvious.

That Bibi could have accepted this deal months ago, but he and Trump conspired to not make a deal due to the election. I feel like I am the only one who sees that!
