US President Joe Biden has said he thinks he would have defeated Donald Trump and won re-election in November.
Speaking to USA Today in an exclusive interview, Biden did, however, add that he was unsure if he would have had the stamina for another four-year term.
Speaking to USA Today, Biden said "based on polling" he believed he would have won, but conceded his age may have affected him in office.
"When Trump was running again for re-election, I really thought I had the best chance of beating him. But I also wasn't looking to be president when I was 85 years old, 86 years old," Biden said. "But I don't know. Who the hell knows?"

So, the rumor posted last week about "anonymous sources" saying that said Biden said he would have won turned out to be true...

(513 posts)as the nominee, I think President Biden is in a small minority of those that think he could have or would have won. But, well never know. I certainly dont begrudge him having his opinion.
Harris basically ended up running Bidens campaign (as I would have done too in her shoes), so the major change was who was running. I think her being younger, a female, and a minority were pluses on the whole, so she was an improvement in electability over Biden. And we still lost. I dont know that any other plausible option would have won either.
I so hated he had to be encouraged/told/forced/whatever it was to leave the race. However, I was pretty pessimistic at the time. And given the circumstance at the time, Harris was probably the best option. Her selection buoyed my spirits and hope for a while until the media turned on her after the presidential and VP debates.
Just my opinion

After the first debate the establishment basically said it was President Biden's choice to make if he were staying in the race. He publicly said he was. The establishment then said we will give him time to make his choice. He then sent a 'dear collogues' letter again saying he was staying in the race. The establishment responded again, we will give him time to make the right choice. A few days later and elected Democrats were calling for him to drop out.
Now I think it was ALSO hubris on his part to even run for reelection but the way it played out was not a good look at all.

(18,720 posts)Some people here ripped the story, saying "Anonymous sources, I'll believe it when I hear it from Biden myself!" Welp, now you've heard it.

(16,375 posts)Jmho, but Biden likely would have picked off some of the blue collar union workers who went to Trump, some of the old white voters who saw themselves in Biden, of which there are many in Pennsylvania, and all of the Dems who weren't that excited about Biden would've marched to the polls and voted for him anyway.
I do find it interesting that karma has done a little payback to those who pushed out Biden out. Pelosi broke her hip. Uncontrolled wildfires are ripping through some of the wealthiest parts of LA county where many of the folks who withheld campaign contributions live.
