Sanders Vows to Work to Block Biden's Proposed $8B Sale of Weapons to Israel

Source: Truthout

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vermont) has pledged that he will do everything in his power to block an $8 billion sale of weapons to Israel announced by the Biden administration last week, as Israeli forces are entering the 16th month of their genocide of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. On Friday, the Biden administration notified Congress of the weapons package, which reportedly contains thousands of weapons, including 500-pound bombs, air-to-air missiles, Hellfire missiles and 155 mm artillery shells, and more.

Sanders condemned the proposed sale in a post on social media on Monday.

“The U.S. must not send more bombs to [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu’s extremist government, which has already killed 45,000 people; destroyed Gaza’s housing, healthcare, and educational systems; and caused starvation by blocking humanitarian aid,” Sanders said.

Unfortunately the massacre in Gaza seems to have strong bipartisan support. Folks on both sides of the aisle seem unfazed by the unending carnage in Gaza. I wonder if that will change once Trump is sending the bombs?

8. No matter the issue, on such a range of topics, it seems I almost always agree with Bernie.

Biden's position has been confusing. He criticizes Netanyahu's execution of the war, yet still supplies him with offensive weapons.

7. How about we use the 8 billion for Appalachia flood damage, fire damage, toxic site cleanup, housing for the homeless?

Well if we used the money for that then the "right" people don't get rich. Appalachia , fire damage, toxic site cleanup, housing for the homeless don't have the most well-funded and influential lobbyist organizations on their side. It's all about the Benjamin's, as they say!

15. Am I wrong to think this is not $8B of US money but sales of $8B of US arms to Israel?

So, it is not taking US money out of other programs, but bringing Israeli money into US businesses?

I am not saying I support arming Netanyahu, just trying to determine if this is US money going out.

Thanks for any enlightenment fellow DUers can offer.

And I accept the U.N. definition of genocide, not some mishmash from "truth out."
