Former Anchorage elections administrator indicted on charges of child sexual abuse material possession

A former Anchorage elections administrator who abruptly resigned amid last year’s municipal elections has been charged with possession of child sexual abuse material.

Municipal officials said this week that the charges were unrelated to William D. Northrop’s departure last March at the height of the city’s mail-based election.

Before his arrival at the municipal position in 2023, Northrop worked as a public defender and a judicial law clerk.

An Anchorage Superior Court grand jury last week indicted him on four counts of possession of child pornography on or about Nov. 5, 2024, and another count of possession of child sexual abuse material on or about July 9, 2025.
