During a Washington Nationals road series in June, president of baseball operations Paul Toboni sat in the dugout of his previous employer, the Boston Red Sox, speaking of development. Up in New England, stars were drafted, not signed. But when he ventured down the coast last fall, the term was largely foreign to D.C. ears. The Nationals minor league system had struggled to generate a consistent flow of talent for several years, which was the primary culprit for the clubs struggles after its 2019 World Series victory.

This image shows a vintage newspaper clipping featuring a baseball player in a batting helmet, likely from a historic sporting event.
The player appears to be wearing a helmet similar to those used by the Boston Red Sox during their 2004 World Series win.
The text alongside the image appears to match a report or historic account of a major baseball game. Newspapers from this era featuring notable sporting moments are often sold as collectibles.

(2,259 posts)The photo is obviously of the drafted player discussed above. That is, unless he has a perfect twin from 22 years ago.

I don't know enough about photoshop to judge how hard it would be to get illumination right, or how hard it would be to shop in a current newspaper with a conveniently distinctive image.
