Democrats could flip the governor's map for the first time since 2010, new report shows

Cook Political Report’s Jessica Taylor announced shifts in five 2026 gubernatorial race ratings, all but one moving toward Democrats. Taylor said that Democrats have a chance to hold the majority of governorships for the first time since 2010.

Taylor said the Democratic Party "finds itself surprisingly competitive in several red-leaning states, including Ohio and Iowa, due to a favorable national climate and unique Democratic recruits."

Cook Political Report shifted Ohio from Lean Republican to Toss Up, Arizona from Toss Up to Lean Democratic, and both Maine and New Mexico from Likely Democratic to Solid Democratic.

The only race that shifted in favor of Republicans was in Oregon, which went from a Solid Democratic race to a Likely Democratic race.
