(8,157 posts)It was like my service to this country meant absolutely nothing. While other girls in my class were planning weddings, or maybe even going to college... I was the only person... male or female.. to enlist out of our entire graduating class. My dad was so proud of me. I was looking forward to the service and adventure that awaited me. And now, THIS. It's a gut punch.

(3,461 posts)And, of course you know this, but your service meant a lot. Thank you for it. I hope you had great adventures.
I, too, read about this days ago. I was a teacher, but when I taught this sort of vile government wasnt part of the equation. I felt women and other minorities were making societal progress. This made me furious, sad and fearful for my daughter who has a PhD and works in the field of satellite imagery. The level of misogyny is unbelievable. No woman is respected by the right. Watch out, Erica Kirk. Theyll come for you, too.

(27,818 posts)My mom wasn't in the military, but she was a master draftsman of related weapons parts for Hughes Aircraft in California, and then another firm back in NYC during WW2!
I knew she was, but it wasn't till way later discussing it with my sister, our cousin came by and said- she wasn't just a draftsman, but *the* head draftsman for the place! Had at least 25 people maybe 50, or more under her at times! So everyone had to submit their drawings to her for review. She also worked on her own drafting assignments.
She kept her T-Square!

(938 posts)they couldn't still hold it, even without that participation? It's a separate group from the military, isn't it? Maybe just ask for Veterans, politicians, and even just regular folks to help put it on? I understand the honor guards and speeches from leaders are a huge part of the usual show, but does it really have to be done in it's "customary form"? Could they still do something, even if it was a lot smaller? I mean, it didn't come across to me that they were told they could not do it at all, so wondered if maybe they just needed to think outside the box to work around the loss of those who refused to participate so as to keep the 28 year tradition alive? Did my old eyes and brain miss something obvious in the article?
