the strait of hormuz will open and oil will start flowing again on Friday, what happens if Iran says not so fast and keeps it closed ?
I think Iran will sabotage the economy to make sure the liar is kicked out of office.
If the strategic oil reserves are depleted our economy will fail.

(24,573 posts)Friday, after the deal is implemented, all of Iran's frozen assets abroad become available to them, Might take a few days to get most of it, but they are going to be flush with cash by next week.
Iran's economy is only $300B a year, giving them $150B is insane. Giving them access to $300B in investments is absurd.

(14,480 posts)The problem with Trump's threats against civilians and civilian infrastructure (in addition to the threats themselves being war crimes) is that the regime doesn't much care about the suffering of the people so long as they can hold the reigns of power.

(77,638 posts)About 17 days worth, which is the lowest in decades.
Biden used the low demand during COVID to fill the reserves, The Failure emptied them to save face over his idiotic misadventure in Iran.

(77,638 posts)About 60% of petroleum used here is domestic.
Canada & Mexico (especially the former) is the largest supplier of imports. That's almost all pipeline.
A decent amount from Venezuela, too. The delays at Hormuz are irrelevant to that.
We Fer dribs & draws of North Sea oil from England & Holland; again not impacted by the Iran situation, so those boars have been sailing for quite a while now.
Only around 8% of demand comes from middle east, none from Iran.
Also worth noting is that the US producers export about 2 MM barrels per day, so they could just retain that for domestic use.
17 days is bad, but it's not as bad as it seems at first blush.
