Top '60 Minutes' Producer Quits Amid Turmoil at See BS

A longtime 60 Minutes producer who has been with CBS News for more than four decades has resigned amid upheaval at the storied newsmagazine.

Michael Gavshon will stay on until the end of June, he wrote in a memo to colleagues, the New York Post reported.

"Thirty-four of my forty-one years at CBS News have been at '60 Minutes,'" Gavshon wrote. "The old chestnut, I have stood on the shoulders of giants, couldn't be more true."

CBS News did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the Daily Beast.

Producers like Michael Gavshon are a big part of what's made "60 Minutes" a real barn-burner, and for DECADES!

EVERYBODY knows the folks on-camera. But it's the people who do the REAL work and the research and the reporting and the digging who've made programs like "60 Minutes" what it is - or WAS. Who knows what will happen to it now? And what sort of standard of "excellence" will rule the day over there, from here on. It's a damn shame. Everybody's gonna scatter as the principals look for new gigs. The network's gonna have to start building a whole new scene with a whole new cast of reporters and producers, many of whom haven't "earned their stripes yet."

But hell, what do I know, anymore? I put 20 years of my life into the news biz, and that was enough! Besides, better things came up (like a couple of kids!) and it helped me open a whole new chapter. It was nice NOT to need that other stuff anymore.
