Will there be rolling blackouts and water rationing to look forward to with all this technology?

Amazon disclosed that its data centers used 2.5 billion gallons of water in 2025. That's 3,785 Olympic sized pools, and that's just Amazon.

There are so many of these small towns around where I live (like less than 20k) that desperately need new water Cheezoholic Jun 11 #3

We have a few still in the planning application stage, intended for an industrial area in the west of Melbourne Au. There a lot of pushback from citizens.

It's unconscionable to use limited water and power resources to power AI so that the rich can become even richer.

infrastructure. And that shit ain't cheap. Some of these towns are having to figure out how to come up with 50 to 100 million dollars in order to upgrade sewer and water systems that are 100 years old or older. THESE are the areas where they want to put these Data Centers. Low taxes or 0 taxes via corrupt small town/county politics. Cheap land via rezoning by same politics. Shallow access to one of the LARGEST AQUIFERS IN THE WORLD through flyover America, once again by the same small town/county political corruption. Corruption BEGINS in small town politics. So how about this...

These billionaires want this shit? Make them PAY for it. If we need it so bad to stay ahead of China (big question mark there) how about these corporations foot the bill to rebuild these small communities water/waste infrastructure. Include plants that recycle water used by these behemoths to be purified and at a minimum, supply it to these communizes as non-potable waste and irrigation water if not some full on potable water to add to the system?

Our country is in a water crisis NOW. Its in a CLEAN WATER CRISIS yesterday. If you want to build a giant 500 acre water cooled PC, pay for the goddamn thing!!!!!

Fuck the China argument, ain't real.

and finally lucrative government contracts. Seems the whole world is sleepwalking to disaster over this AI shit.
What will people do if these tech oligarchs win? Elon Musk has stated that AI and robotics will eventually replace the majority of traditional human labor.

Doesn't Nestle own many of the west-coast water rights?
Illegally, of course. But when has that ever stopped big business?
