Whow--I sure wish this will happen!!
Trump Tower rises from the center of downtown Chicago on a major north/south street called Wabash Avenue. A petition is circulating to have the city formally rename a four-block strip of Wabash after a certain famous Chicago resident.

(1,561 posts)Telling someone to turn left onto N. Barack Hussein Obama Avenue likely will not go over too well, plus a street sign containing 30 characters would be quite inefficient.
Therefore, what of using: N. Obama Ave. instead (?).

(240 posts)because tRump always includes it, with emphasis (and a sneer) - Barrack HUSSEIN Obama. Im sure he thinks it makes Obamas name sound foreign and threatening.

(24,772 posts)... he did not omit his middle name.
Many on DU avoided using it, calling him PBO instead of BHO. I don't understand why.

(7,397 posts).... Giving directions, people would just say Wabash. Otherwise, it could be abbreviated BHO, just as MLK is used for King,

(77,617 posts)It peaked at 76 or 77% occupancy but has been down at about 70% for a few years.
I guess that makes the answer to your question "Yes".
30% seems like a lot of vacancies.

(30,087 posts)When we took one of the architectural boat tours on the Chicago river, the boat was moored in a position looking directly at that damn TRUMP sign. I pulled my visor low over my eyes until we pulled away. It was an otherwise lovely day.

(14,534 posts)Bad part of it though, it would increase the property value. He'd sell at a profit.
Now that I think about it, I don't think he owns that building, I think he just rents his trademark to the owner. He may own the commercial park like shops and hotel.
ProfessorGAC
(77,617 posts)It's not a licensed use of the name.
Technically though, the banks own the place. There are loans on top of loans. Likely the leverage exceeds the assessed value of the property.
The hotel is never sold out, the underground retail space is a ghost town & the living spaces & office floors are about 30% unoccupied.
Another investment by him that was a disaster; for others. (Mostly the idiot bankers that were still lending him money 10 to 18 years ago.)

ProfessorGAC
(77,617 posts)For me, it's not even a logical way to launder money no matter who is involved.
drmeow
(6,037 posts)not an uncommon way to launder money. Maybe not through the tenants but it could certainly be through the mortgage.

(24,696 posts)for a couple days. Right next to the House of Blues and the parking towers that were used in a Steve McQueen movie. We walked by a few times. There was was one rent-a-cop guarding the place. Some people we were with wanted to go up to the 12th floor or wherever the scenic balcony was. You had to walk through a restaurant to get outside. There was a snotty hostess that said we would have to buy something if we wanted to go out there. Typical. We said we would and went out to take photos. When we came back in, she was gone and we left. We talked about peeing in the elevator on the way down but there was probably a camera, so...
