Incredible headline: No walking allowed in heart of Midtown for Monday's Knicks game
The secure zone starts at 4 p.m. and covers the area between 30th and 35th streets and Seventh and Eighth avenues. The Knicks also said that a strict no-bag policy will be in place for Monday night's game, and you can expect "TSA-level security" for entry.

Sorry, Knicks fans: No Madison Square Garden watch party tonight.
You won't even be able to walk close.
The NYPD and U.S. Secret Service announced another spate of street closures and security measures in anticipation of President Donald Trump's historic trip to the Knicks' NBA Finals game.
No sitting president has ever attended an NBA Finals. And the security will be pretty historic, too.
Starting at 4 p.m., 30th to 35th streets will be closed between Seventh and Eighth avenues. That means no vehicular traffic -- and no pedestrian traffic either. .......................................

(1,556 posts)Good idea.
This is at the height of rush hour.
From article:
"People with ticketed train or game tickets will be allowed to enter the area on foot. So too will people who have appointments with businesses, the NYPD said. It's not clear how law enforcement plans to verify the latter."
And train passes? Most commuters use those. And last time I took commuter rail, it did not have tickets for specific trains like Amtrak does. LIRR and NJT both use Penn station as their NYC gateway. Not to mention all the subway lines that stop there.
And that air space is closed for hours when AF1 is nearby.

Mayor Zohran Mamdani has announced a free Knicks watch party at Bryant Park.
This comes after watch parties outside of Madison Square Garden were canceled due to Trump's attendance.

(81,878 posts)I read somewhere that Trump arrived in NYC yesterday--the 7th.
BREAKING: NEW YORK HATES YOU! A huge crowd of New York Knicks fans gathered outside of Trump Tower last night to make sure that Trump knows his own city hates him and that he is NOT welcome at Madison Square Garden tomorrow night for Game 3 of the NBA Finals!
The New York Knicks are on a historic playoff run and are up two games in the best-of-7 finals against the San Antonio Spurs, so of course, Donald Trump is obligated to try and steal some spotlight by personally attending the team's home opener.
This is going to have a HUGE effect on the diehard fans who have waited their whole lives for this. Seats are going to be too expensive to afford and watch parties outside the stadium have been banned, all so a demented pedo who couldnt care less about basketball can try to steal some spotlight for his selfish self.
New Yorkers gathered outside Trump Tower to let their feelings be known, and, well, the video speaks for itself.
New York hates Donald Trump. And so do we!

(12,111 posts)Both these fine gentlemen would take the high road regarding this, and most other, playoff games. They would step back knowing full well how their presence would complicate attendance and planning of the fans. Rather than exhibit pure selfishness by insisting on attending, they would insure the fans would have the pleasure of unfettered access to this special event.
Their statements would come with ease and understanding:
"Knowing the importance of this evening to the fans and followers of the Knicks and Spurs, and respecting their rights and desires to enjoy these moments firsthand, I, like thousands of other faithful fans, choose to enjoy this evening by watching the challenge on my own home TV screen. Enjoy the game(s), dear constituents, and best wishes to both teams for an exciting, successful evening of hearty competition!"
I'd expect nothing else from these wonderful men.
